Im thinking about getting some Hella 500s and mounting them on the bumber but I have a question about wiring. How would I wire them if I want to turn them on and off anytime with both the hi and lo beams and so that they would go off when the key is off. Is that doable?
Thanks guys

You'd just wire them to any 12V source and not hook them up to the headlight circuit. However, I'd wire them to something that is keyd by the ignition so that you don't run the chance of leaving them on and draining your battery.

I am not sure if it the best way... but it works in any key or headlight situation.

The relay needs 2 sources of power. Instructions say to wire red to battery and green to the hi-beam (another 12v source). So we wired both the green and the red to the battery.

So,

Red battery to relay
yellow switch to relay
green switch to relay
black relay to hellas
plus all associated grounds

there might be a better way, but if you want to use the relay I think this is how.

also, there is a factory hole in the fire wall with a rubber gromet in place (05 sport CRD anyhow) . I did not remove it, just poked one wires (2, yellow and green) through hooked to a piece of stiff e-fence wire and pulled them through.

hope it helps...

I did a write-up on this for another thread, you can check it out here. One note: on the '05s the correct wire to connect to on the parking lamp is pink with a red stripe. Looking at my FSM they did change wire colors from the '03s. PM me if you have any questions.
