OK guys,

1. The MuddyBuddy's has changed plans and is wheeling in Charelston, WV. Anyone interested in making a change and following them? (they say it's closer to Dayton than Livingston) They are concerned over some recent ticketing by NF rangers just west of the 49'er. I'm still trying to find out the truth of what's going on there. Now we can decide that we want to explore a new area over in WV, or keep with the Livingston plan, knowing that we are on legal roads (based on their own MVUM). I will be calling the ranger district office tomorrow morning to get the info straight.

2. I am going to try to take off around 10:30 on Friday from Dayton for Lake Linville. The guy at the CG that I talked to said I didn't need reservations, but will my luck lately, I'll be at least calling him again before I depart Ohio.

So what kind of place is down by Charleston ? Years ago there was some great places but thought they had all closed up, must be something new? I had been keeping up on their comments so was waiting for you to chime in. Actually would be closer for like Jon coming from the northwest Ohio area maybe?
I am just waiting to see what everyone else says, I am somewhat flexable, keep us posted as to what you find out Jason!

I will add that I kind of like to know where I am going before we leave, nothing against Muddy Buddys as they have maybe been there but with DBNF at least we know what to expect, ya know?
Jason I will give you a call tomorrow evening, making a trip to Columbus tomorrow so after I get home.

Tom

This is all I have on it...

Hey guys as to the trails the WV local has been wheelin this piece of ground for years and said that there are lots of easy to hard trails. good field to camp in & no blacktop roads just great wheelin for everybody. the road to campsite is good and able to handle campers as well as tow rigs
I understand about going to livingston and will go as soon as we are clear on it. the london ranger is the one doing the tickets and after a long talk, has said they are going to start reclaming some of the damage that the 4x4 have done over the years. this is what i was told last week.
any questions as to this trip i will answer or try to get answers

I pretty sure we can be flexible, within reason. As long as we're not driving further than 3 hours, we're ok.

Plus, I wouldn't mind seeing some new scenary.[/b]

I just got off the phone with a Ranger at the London District. As long as you are in a street legal vehicle on the roads listed in the MVUM, you have no problems. This means that we can no longer park in the cave for lunch, as that road is "closed". We will have to drive up the steps first, then walk down to the cave if we want to continue eating there.

As for which place to go... I don't really care. I'm fine with either place. So it sounds like everyone is either up for a new adventure, or at least willing to give it a try. MapQuest is showing London, KY as 25 miles further, but about the same time from Dayton; 50 miles and a half hour closer for Tom and Sean, and, well I didn't do the rest of you  . So, want to throw in with the wranglers? (just have to do your own food) or do we want to explore other trails down there (Livingston)?

The map location is not correct. Directions are: I-75 south to exit 62. Turn Left onto US25 North. Turn Left onto Lake Linville Road ("just past The Grist Mill Resturant. It's got a big water wheel on it...", misnamed "green hill road" on mapquest and google maps) and go about two miles. On the left.

So if you click on that gogle map that was on the link page, you can see the lake in the lower left. The lake is roughly a triangle-ish shape. The CG is on the north point

Try this link and switch to aerial imagery...

So are we exploring livingston then? I will bring my camper. We can do breakfast inside, since it might be a little chilly. My wife and son are staying home, but my daughter is bringing a friend, so I'll have 3 in the jeep.

Well, i think what Mitch was suggesting is that we camp at Lake Linville still, but be open to driving to the other location in the morning if we want. I'm really fine with anything!

I meant that if we go to Linville, we play at livingston. My party wouldn't mind driving to WV (and camping there also).

I'm definitely cool with exploring more of Livingston however.

I'm more interested in Livingston right now, but I'm open to either. The WV location is about 4 hours from Livingston, so it's one or the other.

seriously though, i camped next to the trail in July for free. BUT, thats private property and totally illegal. so, not a good idea, especially right now with the rangers out in force.

Moose, you going to bring your camper still? Anyone else?

I'll call tomorrow to reserve spots near each other. I know they have full hookups, but forgot to check about showers and restrooms.

(606 - 256 - 9696 for the Lake Linville office)

it's $10 per night for a tent. Tom, I've got an extra tent I'll through in too.

I'm going to bring the camper and a tent for Tom. You don't need to make reservations. The first one there just needs to tell them we've got about one trailer and 3 tents in a group.
