Moody Hill/Crystal Mountain

Well, after sleeping most of the day, Shoni decided she wanted to go wheeling afterall. So we ended up running Moody Hill and Crystal Mountain. Moody was pretty easy without many tough obstacles, but it is a fun way to get to the Crystal trailhead. Crystal had a several shelves and steep rocky climbs. It was a lot of fun, I can't believe what the jeep can do now. We didn't go all the way to the top, because it was getting dark, but I guess there is a really tough climb at the end.

It didn't take you long to modify that Jeep. Looks great! How's the ESP working for you?

looks like great trail to get out and stretch on!

EDIT: you should also tell whoever put the weight balancers on the OUTSIDE LIP of the rims he's fired...its the little things that bug me sometimes! :shock:

The ESP is amazing, I'm really starting to think lockers aren't even worth it anymore.

As far as wheel weights, they have to put them on the inside AND outside for proper balancing.

Interesting...my wheels do not have any weights on the outside because they're not applicable on my rims (no way to clamp them on with the lip so thick).

Yeah, some wheels can't have weights on the outside, even though that is the best way to balance them. I remember TJKJ2002 posted about it a while ago, he used to have fake beadlocks that couldn't have weights on the outside.

Yep I did,to get a true dymamic balance you need to place the wheel wieghts on the inside/outside bead,if you have them hide the wieghts you don't get a true balance and can be thrown off easily.

Chase, can you elaborate why you think the ESP is so effective, especially when compared to Lockers? I’m somewhat familiar knowing how the ESP works on wet payment, but I’m not familiar with how the ESP would operate with the Lift Kit and off-road. Obviously you have a lot more trail experience than I do and would like to hear the good news about ESP on the trail. Thanks!

Once you put it in 4-lo, it shuts off a lot of the ESP functions, and basically leaves the limited slip function. It may leave the throttle control on too, I'm not sure, but you can shut it off with the button. Anyway, basically all it does off-road is apply the brakes slightly to whatever wheel is losing traction (hanging in the air, loose soil, whatever) and therefore sends power to the opposite wheel, which has traction. I hear it come on a lot, so I know it is helping a lot. The jeep will keep moving even with a wheel hanging way in the air.

Thanks for the report. Do you have plans on putting TT in the front or rear? I’m waiting for an ESP guinea pig to install an ARB to see the results.

I don't really have any plans for a TT. Maybe ARBs down the road, then it'd be like a rubicon with ESP. But the gains aren't worth the money right now. I'd like to figure out a way to get a regular dana 30 in the front too, then move the front suspension down a little and get some 33s. But that would all have to be custom, and VERY expensive.
