I seem to have smoke coming out the tailpipe all the time. I mean more then just at WOT. At night I can almost always see smoke as I accelerate from a stoplight or stop sign. During the day it is not as visable without the headlights of another car. My question is how much does your CRD smoke?

I got ORM and EHM, and I can see a little smoke when accelerating from a stop as well.

Just at night I can see it at 3/4 WOT. Never during the day.

Anymore than 1/3 throttle and it will smoke black for a couple of seconds. The smoke is really easy to see at night with headlights shining through it.

When I first bought my CRD it was 100% stock. I saw lots of smoke out the tailpipe in regular driving. The CRD had been sitting on a dealership lot for months. It cleared up a few hundred miles later. I then did the ORM and ProVent and the jeep became louder and rougher idling but it didn't smoke during the day. At night and under heavy accelleration I could see smokish-looking stuff in the headlights of the car behind me. Very light. I've since un-ORM'ed my CRD and it runs smoother, quieter, better fuel economy and smokes the same as when it was ORM'ed.

from my understanding, at night, you are likely seeing the "ash" coming out of the cat conv. after it gets burnt and blown out by higher speed exhaust gasses when you use the pedal on the right. with a diesel, I am pretty sure black smoke is exess unburt fuel, cant remember blue and white off hand, but they are more troublesome.

Smoke at night sounds about right, I get the same thing about 1/2 throttle and up when accelerating. Black smoke is unburn't diesel fuel re-burning in the exhaust, that is normal for diesels. It also helps back off tail gaters when they get too close  .

I even had a "gentleman" in a BMW give me the finger on Rt. 81 because I flogged him for about a 1/2 mile, But hey he was ridding right on my tail because I wasn't driving fast enought for him... Once he caught up to me, He was very upset. I just smiled and watched him speed by.

Cool, I am just glad to see I am not the only one. No cause for concern then.

I always find that is a good time to blow the built up ash out. As a free gift to a tailgater.

I never ran mine with LSD, but with ULSD and biodiesel mixes I never see smoke, save at night in the rear view through headlights.

Are you indicating the plug that was accidently left off on the filter change was put back on and your noticing smoother, quieter, better fuel economy :?:
My lift pump cured most all of my symptoms but I keep forgetting to put the plug back on

My lift pump cure all the problems with mine, but I like to ORM and chip. These mods caused another kind of smoke, burning rear rubber tires. Maybe I get rid of them good for OneYear tires soon.

When I bought my CRD used its MAF was plugged in. (i.e. no ORM performed) After reading the forums here I unplugged the MAF (ORM'ed) and have driven it that way for about 11,000 miles. I noticed that my CRD idled louder and rougher with the MAF unplugged. (ORM'ed) My mileage increased slightly but not by much. Last month I got 275 miles on a tank of diesel and became worried. After th next fill-up at another station I got about 300. I plugged my MAF back in (un-ORM'ed it) and I noticed how smoothly the engine idled, how quiet it was and I am now getting about 380 miles per tank. (with my 2.5" lift and oversized AT tires) I don't know what the deal is.

ORM'ed or not.. My CRD smokes the same now.
