My 2006 shock bottoms are flush with the clevis bottom What is the max one would recommend for a lift (how much would the shock be safely recessed from the clevis bottom and how much lift would this gain.

I was told by some one on here that the lift result = 2.25 x the height of increased clevis gap. . I decided as long as all of the upper clevis bolt is on the strut it was ok, and I did not use washers, just left a gap. No probs with that yet.

by this theory, my brother is going to lift his CRD ~1" with 2 extra isolators in the rear and a 7/16 clevis gap.

just noticed you have a 2.5 lift also. I did my clevis lift when I added the new FL (no internal spacers) and I got too much in the front. I need to let it down some when I put als UCA on to replace my damadged UBJ's, get more tire-UBJ clearance, and attain proper alinement (scientists dont have to spell correctly). So, just be careful and check for UBJ or UCA for contact with the coils.

lordy I am an idiot. lifted XJ...sorry. Oh, and Gunnison is my favorite place on this planet. I lived there for 2 years, and became intimately familiar with lots of ground around there. Id love to move there again, I would just have to figure out how to make a living...

Do you really expect to get 2x the lift? If you put in a 1/2" spacer, you aren't going to get 1" of lift.

I did not feel safe putting any more than 2 conduit washers under the clevis.

Its a 2:1 ratio with the clevis lift so base your decisions from that.

If you draw out a view of the a arms looking at the pivot points (A arm bushings) and the clevis attachment point there is some gain due to the clevis pivot being inboard of the ball joints if one measured you could use that Trig. stuff to figure it out. To Johnboy: my daughter went to Western and has not left town yet.We go every summer for the last 4 years. She works at the Gunnison Brewery (Emily) we go and camp up on the Taylor. and tour area Durango ,Oury,Moab and some New Mexico.

I graduated from western, never would have left if thay had a grad school. they actually do now, it is just getting going so i am sure funding is pretty tough. i love that place soo much. didnt seem to matter what else was going on in the world, the gunnison valley was always peaceful.

Taylor is nice. I spent a lot of time in the west elks, crested butte, powderhorn valley (worked on a ranch there), wolf creek. doesnt really matter which way you go from gunny, spectacular and pristine land every direction. between CB and glenwoodsprings (summer only) is a really nice drive with lots of 4x4 and hiking trails, really good places to camp. makes for a nice 2 day trip. man, i have to get back. hopefully as a practing veterinarian in the valley...

Someone needs to explain this to me. How is that even possible?

look at it. The strut is not at either end of the system, it's closer to the center. Therefore, anything you do to make it longer will push the wheels, which are further from the pivot point of the system, down twice as far (roughly). I'd say it's simple geometry but, there's a lot of triangles to calculate to show the proof. If you just study how it all moves, you will see how it's possible.

Ok, in theory, if I were to do this clevis lift to my front suspension, would I get the same UBJ contact issues I would from an OTT spacer? I've decided against an OTT spacer but if doing this could mean putting off the expense of a real lift, thatd be awesome.

you wont have any UBJ contact until taller than 2.5" (right?). Plus, tallest safe gain from a clevis gap is about an inch, otherwise there is not enough strut going through the clevis clamp.
