lots of different lift kits are listed here, just want to know if there is a good point to stop at, like say 1.5" as listed on ARB's Old Man Emu section. I just don't want to get into premature wear problems of the cv's.

Most would say that 2.5" is about as much that is safe. That's why you'll see some of the best selling lifts (frankenlift, rusty's, OME) that stop at 2.5".

1.5" to 2.25" and you are very safe...2.5" properly setup and you are "ok" depending on your individual KJ...anything higher and you are on your own.

Honestly the front aluminum diff is more likely to have a catastrophic failure than a CVJoint. You just can't comedown on something hard with too much wheel speed...and add the "collar" many have added to strengtthn the tail section of the front diff.

I can say that after 4 years with a 2.5" lift, the only real damage I've done to the CV's has been incurred by aggressive 'wheeling. By this I mean carrying too much speed over terrain and/or consistantly topping and bottoming out - thereby pushing the CV's to their angular limits.

I blew one out early on due to being stupid on an obstacle and had to have a shaft replaced. That was enough of a learning curve. Since then I've calmed down (a bit). I had my stock units re-built this last spring.

I assumed that I would have many issues when I lifted, but I have been pleasantly surprised that that has not been the case. Others might disagree...

Surprisingly enough, I dont see to many threads about worn out CV's unless people are just not posting about them.

Ive had the rustys lift(2.5in) for 1 year and had the OME lift(1.5in) for 1year before that and Ive never had any troubles out of the CV's.

I recently had a loud clicking/popping noise but after taking the front suspension apart to inspect it went away. Never did find out what it was.

Jeep gremlins....!

I've been running my Frankenlift for the whole summer (since early June) on my 02', never had any problems with the CV's. Mine functions as a DD and weekend wheeler every once in a while, not as much as most, but like about 80% of this board (the ones who wheel anyway..) uses their 2.5" lifted KJs.

The only problems I've had with my CV's was apparently the friggin' passenger side front wheel bearing assembly/CV was froze up (my mechanic thinks it was manufacturer error...go figure ) and I had to get the whole bearing assembly as well as the right side CV half shaft replaced when it was originally put in for LBJs of which it needed badly. So a LBJ job turned into a 1K job to get everything unassembled and replaced..... Yea I was happy about that one.
