Just curious if there are any "support" mods I can do to beef up the drivetrain making it stronger and preventing stuff from breaking. By support mods I mean non-internal parts. No lockers, re-gearing, taking tranny, tc or diff apart.

You could get a differential collar to go around your front diff. They say it should help but nobody is really for sure. It goes on the end where the front drive shaft goes in front diff.

yes i want to know more about it, like some type of test to show it does something, because we already have a very weak front diff, if this helps, i say 4x4'er should invest into it

It's very unproven and from the slight differences in each diff housing casting one standard size collar can do more harm then good by compressing the pinion shaft area to much and cause undo bearing stress and failure.Plus the collar does not completely surrond the pinion shaft area so it is still prone to cracking,and the fact it is just sitting there is no hope either.To be really effective(and proven by other diffs) you need to completly surrond the pinion area and them weld it in place to provide adiquite reinforcement to that area.But by reinforcing that area it just moves the weak point somewhere else so your back at square one again.

^^^^great insight . Any other low cost options? I saw the Poison Spider rock ring on some website. Looks like it just protects the casing. Definitely something to look into.

basically we just need a stronger diff that will fit into the kj lol

On a side note, I visited our local sand dune/mud hole with a friend last night and got uber dirty. Even with bald-ass tires this thing still dominated. I now know why people change out the front bumper. Oops

No cheap mods that does not replace any internal parts which is about the only way to strenthen the diffs and is really not on the cheap side.

I have everything that can be done to the KJ's 8.25 done to mine to strenthen it,ARB airlocker,Yukon gears,Yukon HD 29-spline axles,and 1/2" thick rear diff cover at a cost of $1400 not including the locker compressor nor labor(which was free anyway).For the front I put in a Detroit TrueTrac for $360,the only thing I haven't done to the front is put the J.E.Reel CV's,they say they are stronger but the just rebuild OEM one's so I highly doubt they are any stronger then the OEM ones,the CV boots are better is all I think is better about them.

I bought the collar for cheap protection. I figure if it all breaks it can keep the guts up there so I can limp home. If it doesn't work, then it doesn't work...but on the other hand, it hasn't proven NOT to work either. As I said, cheap insurance...
