Does anyone know just where it is located and what it does? The manual calls for it to be "inspected" at each oil change and replaced if need be. Anyone have any info on this thing?

Look over between the fender and the airbox - should be a dohickey with a small clear lawnmower-type filter in a rubber hose next to the fender - also look by the silver cannister sticking up from the turbo area - you'll have to remove the vanity cover to see that

I take the airbox lid off and its on the back side. I change my yearly after summer.

I easily located the boost pressure solenoid filter located at the bottom of the solenoid. It is between the passenger side fender and the airbox as a previously indicated. Very easy to get to and inspect. Why would this ever need replacing, what exactly would it possibly clog up with?

What filter are you guys referring to that you need to remove the airbox to get at it?

The turbo nozzle is ECM controlled by pulsing vacuum on the VNT actuator diaphragm - apply more vacuum, get quicker spool-up and more Boost, reduce vacuum to increase exh flow as exhaust energy increases - varying control requires applied vacuum to be vented - the subject filter is located in the vent path to filter dusty engine bay air, protecting the expensive ECM controlled Boost solenoid - the VNT actuator is that silver colored cannister thingy on the turbo, down in behind the airbox

Where does the vacuum come from?

2004.5 Cummins 5.9L TD, F1s, NV5600 6-speed in a '93 GMC Suburban

Down inside the engine, behind the front cover, gear on the front of the crankshaft drives the vacuum pump - not the best place in the world for a sliding-vane type pump, imo, but even more reason to filter the source vent.

Is the boost solenoid filter available anywhere except the dealer?

I bet you could just use a little fuel filter for a cabureted briggs&stratton or tecumseh. $5 at home depot

I replaced mine after 25k even though the new one looked just like the old one. It was 5 or 6 bucks at the dealer.
