of course its a race car, cant you see the spoiler. Spoilers help keep the rear tires on the ground when its racing around at high speeds even thought the Neon is a front wheel drive car :lol:

the rear spoiler on neon srt4's are fully functional and was designed by mopar. becasue there is no weight over the rear tires, the rear can get squirrely at higher speeds. so at 85+ MPH the rear spoiler on neon srt4's provides some 10-20 (i forget the number) pounds of downforce to help straight line stability. some spoilers on fwd cars actually have a job to do...

Oh i see so in a 2mi. drag the rear spoiler becomes useful.I understand now.But wouldnt the three hundred pounds of stereo gear in the trunk do a better job :?:

Just havin some fun.I believe a cheap race car would have been a mazdaspeed 3 IMO.

lol i understand you are havin fun, so am i. just thought id throw out the rear spoiler thing since i had an srt4. the stereo equipment is a much better alternative if you like using your whole rearview mirror, lol :lol:

The extra downforce behind the rear wheels actually decreases front rolling resistance. Since there's so much weight in the front, you need the downforce in the rear to bring up the front at high speeds to help with handling at 75+ and help even out the weight distribution.

In all seriousness, though, sweet ride:D SRT4s are fun cars. you drag race it or what?

thats all the extra slack...you can see the straps are anchored underneath the car and to keep the straps from whipping around at highway speeds like those whacky wavey inflatable arm flailing tubeman

Nice Jeep and nice car. The KJs are nice little tow vehicles...I've used mine a time or two to pull my mx trailer (10X6) loaded to the gills.

I tell you I have gained a whole new respect for the SRT-4's after riding in one of my buddies that had alot of stuff done to it (tubro bored, exhaust, many other things have no idea about). It just sucks they are FWD because they have a crap load of potential. Fun as he11 to drive!! :twisted:

Geez nobody here really knows how fast you can make an SRT-4, do they? That spoiler is functional, it serves to balance the car aerodynamically...that is, to reduce lift in the rear. Aerodynamic lift on a car is very bad at speed. You really arent going to be getting any downforce (the car still probably produces some lift) without a full package consisting of a flat underbody with a rear diffuser, ect.

Do you use the SRT for drag or autocross? Take her to actual racetracks for SCCA events and stuff?

. i was serching around for info on this very subject.

How does it handle when towing? What is the max towing weight for the KJ? Any additonal mods needed(besides a hitch) to make it tow ready? ie: tanny cooler, re-gear, etc.

The spoiler on the SRT-4 will help eliminate rear end wiggle at high speeds when hard breaking. Does the stock piece work? Hard to say. I doubt they did a wind tunnel test during the design process. There are actually better, more areodynamically designed, spoilers for most FWD cars to help with this problem. These are usually boxy pieces with sharp angles, like, hmm I dunno, airplane wings :wink:

Wow, all this comment and I posted less than 24 hours ago. Let's see if I can answer all the questions:

- Any mods done to your SRT yet? Of yeah, it's a 12 second beast now. I can leave rubber all the way through the first half of 3rd gear in it (on street tires...throw the slicks on and you'd better keep your head planted to the back of the seat or you'll get a concussion. lol).

- How does it do pulling it? The trailer and car is getting close to the weight limit for the Jeep (I estimate the load at 4500lbs), so it takes a while to get up to speed, but once it gets there, there's no problems holding it. I took it for a test drive, and the little Jeep held 70mph on the highway uphill without any problems. The weight distribution is pretty much dead on - no sway or shimmy from the trailer. Of course, the weight distributing hitch plays a big part in helping control sway and keeping the load balanced so the front tires stay planted on the road. And of course, trailer brakes are a MUST for something that heavy.

- How do you get the car on that trailer? Using the ramps, of course! The dovetail keeps the angle of the ramps shallow enough that I don't scrape the bottom of the car.

- SRT4s are fun cars. You drag race it or what? Yup, drag race. The season's pretty much over and I haven't gotten a run in after doing some more tweaking, but it's seen 12.01 at 120.0mph in the 1/4 mile. Still has the full stock interior, the only weight reduction I do before racing is removing the spare tire and jack. It's a fully streetable car.

- Why are the straps going inside the neon? Yeah, that's all the extra slack.

- How does it handle when towing? What is the max towing weight for the KJ? Any additional.........etc? Max tow weight without a weight distributing hitch is 3100 lbs(? I believe, not 100% certain), with a WD hitch, it's 5000 lbs. I'd suggest that if you're pulling anything over 2000 lbs to get trailer brakes or the trailer will be pushing you through intersections at the wrong time. For heavy duty towing, you'll want an external transmission cooler (any auto parts store) and an external power steering cooler (some models already have this, mine did).

Sounds good to me...my buddies 05' was dynoed by a performance place in Ohio and he said it was something around 320-330hp if I remember. I really dont know a whole lot about it, but its a really cool car. Those things do roll pretty good.

It's like driving a KJ...of course we're guna catch crap from guys with the TJ's and other Jeeps on the trail. And it's just like that with your car, you're guna catch crap that you're driving a neon (as this thread has already represented), but they'll shut up when they see it run.

Thanks for the info. I'd guess my car weighs in at about 2500lbs. Haven't had it corner-weighted yet.

I'm really excited to see that someone has used their KJ to tow a car. This means that I don't have to swap tires at the track. I road race though, no 1320 for me.
