Quick question, why does it need special antifreeze anyways? like what special materials does it have compared to any other vehicle made that can take regular coolant? Almost sounds like a gimick to me

Thanks for the info in this thread. Next time I am out at the auto parts places I will look for the Zerex G-05 coolant. There is an Autozone near here and they should have it. I should be able to find it but if not and I wanted/needed to top off my coolant and can't find it I will just bite the bullet and go to the dealer to get the Mopar Coolant. Better safe than sorry. I knew different antifreezes don't mix but that "mixes with anything" on the label stuff is misleading then to say the least.

tjkj....you should post this over on JKJCountry with the pic and explanation.

Have you ever seen it anywhere else?

I can't be sure. I use Pep Boys for almost all my supplies, as it's just down the street, but I am pretty sure that I saw it at K-Mart too.

It's just a way for Chrysler to make more money.You can use other coolants but you need to completly drain the G-05 from the radiator and engine block before you put any other kind in.

The Chrysler G-05 is dyed orange,the Zerex G-05 is a yellow color,Red coolant is Dexacool.

I found this stuff while searching on the internet:
Hybrid OAT (HOAT) coolants, such as "Zerex G-05" use organic acids, but not 2-EHA (2-ethylhexanoic acid) (different organic acids are used). Hybrid OAT coolants add some silicate to provide quick-acting protection for aluminum surfaces.

Properties of Organic Acid Technology (OAT) Coolant:
* Lower alkalinity
* Contains NO silicates, resulting in longer lasting water pump and engine seals;
longer shelf life.
* It is Nitrite-, borate-, phosphate-, nitrate- and amine-free.
* 100% biodegradable in its pure unused condition.
* Longer lasting

Several web sites said you should avoid mixing traditional coolants (blue, yellow or green) with Organic Acid Technology (OAT) (orange, red, pink) or HOAT (yellow) coolants. The OAT will cause precipitation of silicates in the green type and corrosion protection is greatly reduced.
However, many of the aftermarket coolants (e.g. Prestone, Zerex, Peak) now have a universal coolant they claim is OK to mix with anything.

According to Car Talk, SAE (the Society of Automotive Engineers) said that you can mix up to about 15 percent traditional coolant in your OAT coolant before you have any real effect on the corrosion inhibitors.

I'm not in CS right at the moment but the jug of G-05 I have has a warning on the back about a certian "universal" coolant that is not compatable with G-05,I can't remember the name off hand.If you can get the true name of that coolant(chemical name) and then find a jug of G-05 to make sure it isn't that coolant that is very harmful if mixed with G-05,the warning is on the bottom of the back side if I remember.

Well, all the coolant in the system ended up on the pavement after the accident so this shouldn't be a problem.

My coolant level seems very low, it is like tiny bit of amount left at the bottom, and it looks greenish. I just have to look at it again tomorrow and post back here. What color is this G-05 stuff? I also was about to buy just anything, but jeepjeepster said buy this stuff.
When I look at the reservoir from the side, I don't see any level at all. It might be just because it is very dirty, or it is way too low..

The Zerex G-05 is a yellow color and the OEM G-05 is more orange,DC just died it so you could see it in the overflow bottle and for easy spotting of leaks.

I used Prestone antifreeze to top off the Overflow tank. Is that bad..?? I bought 2 gallons of the ZEREX G-05 to drain/refill, or should I have it flushed at a shop?

Question: Why are there two hoses? One on the cap, one on the side?

The hose on the top relieves pressure from the system. It lets it go into that clear tank on the side.

The hose on the bottom lets the fluid flow into and out of the tank as it needs.

So I just got the right stuff. Now I want to flush the rad. do I need to drain the block. If so I have to drop the starter to get to one of the plugs. Or at lease thats what the Haynes book says?

I would just park the Jeep nose down(Maybe put ramps under the rear wheels) and take the lower rad hose off.

I dont like to use those Petcocks b/c Ive had them leak after using them.

Just make sure you have a big bucket b/c its going to pour out when you take that hose off! :)

Im not sure if the G-05 harms animals, but I like to keep a water hose around to wash it away and dilute it if I spill any.
