I had not seen anyone mention this since it posted on Friday but thought I would.

It would seem like a good idea to me to streamline the product line and let the dealers compete more with other manufactures than with one another. On the other hand I know that my local dealer has wondered if they can exist as a Jeep only dealer. They are about the only one around and there was some talk that they might be in line to capture the local Chrysler dealership which is quite weak. If this plan goes through it looks like if they did that they would need to keep it a distinct operation rather than an add on.

I wonder if this wold mean that Dodge would go away as a passenger car and only exist as a Chrysler. That might get panties of the NASCAR bunch in a knot.

The place where I bought my CRD is a Jeep/Dodge dealer. They have begun to enlarge the showroom by about 50% based on "orders" from Chrysler. I asked why they were told to get bigger and was not given any information other than it is "company policy" to have a minimun size for showrooms which their (small) maybe 6-8 car inside area does not meet.

I asked if they were going to increase size of service bay and just got a shrug.

One idea - they want them to have room to display that rebadged Chinese junk that Cerebrus is going to have Chery build for them - alongside the already existing models.

How about this article from Forbes.
http://www.forbes.com/2007/11/15/cars-w ... 5cars.html

The top 5 spots (worst vehicles) are all Chryslers - including a Liberty.
