I know most people are going to be harping on this, and forgive me for doing the same, but when you don't wear your seatbelt you are 80% more likely to be ejected from a vehicle and seriously hurt. And the excuse: "I can get out of my car quicker without it after an accident" doesn't fly becuase at the speeds we travel today you'll most likely be unconscious.

I'm really happy you learned your lesson and that you and your vehicle are OK but man you have no idea how lucky you really are.

I didn't mention it but you caught me. I was not wearing my seatbelt because it bothers my arm. I am completely and utterly lucky I didn't flip many times.

Dont be stupid like me...I'm 18 and dont claim to know everything but I was definitley being bull-headed. I've learned my lesson.

But you did mention it when you said you wound up in the passenger seat. Damned lucky dude!

BUT, lets not blame the KJ and it's "High Center of Gravity" and it's "Short Wheel Base". YOU were not paying attention and YOU wer in charge of the KJ, Not the KJ. YOU should not have been driving that fast for conditions, 4 wheel drive or not. YOU caused the accident, not the KJ.

People need to know that THEy are in charge of the vehicle and when they are not paying attention to the road then they wind up not in controll of the vehicle. I am deeply grateful that you are Okay and same goes with your Jeep. But YOU need to assume FULL responsibility for this, not the center of gravity and not the lack of 4 wheel drive engaged and not the short wheel base.

You knew ALL of that when you got behind the wheel. And you ignored it and caused the accident.

Again Glad you are ok and that you have learned your lesson. The ones we walk away from are always the best.

Glad you’re OK. Sounds like you need to go buy a lotto ticket while your luck is with you. WoodysKJ – I understand your point being the driver and all that but sometimes you’re driving along on dry roads, the temps are below freezing and you hit some ice. You’re not going to drive 20 mph all the time when the temps are below freazing b/c you might hit one patch of ice. Maybe without the lift he wouldn’t have flipped but it sure sounds like he would have ran off the road either way. I don’t want to make a whole to-do out of it, I’m just saying sometimes sh*t happens and it is what it is.

FastTRX – make sure you get your arm checked out. I have a friend who had rotator cuff surgery to repair a bone spur and he was told not to even drive for 3 weeks b/c any sudden moves could rip the stitches in his muscle. The surgery is done on very small muscles using very small stitches. I’m going through PT right now for a torn knee – although I didn’t have surgery I would hate to find out that my PT was not working b/c the surgery didn’t repair itself the right way. I’m sure if you call your Doc he’ll have you get another MRI to see what’s what.

Good luck and keep the rubber side down.

So I take it that you didn't shift into 4W because of your arm. You didn't use your seatbelt because of your arm. I am wondering if you should even have been driving at all if in fact you were 1 arming it all the time. :?

not scolding, just remembering what it was like to be 18 and made out of teflon and steel :D

It amazes me that there is always somebody who want to argue. Scoobynax you are wrong, plain and simple. doo doo doesn't JUST HAPPEN it is CAUSED by something. Don't even try to blame the weather on this.

He admitted he screwed up. The KJ didn't cause this accident HE DID, why do you want to argue about that?

Go as a cop who investigates accidents. The ONLY reason accidents like this happen is becuase of HUMAN error.

I am not trying to be a Richard. I was just stating that by his own admission he KNEW the weather conditions were crappy and he should have been driving in a manor that would have prevented this in the first place. This kind of lesson comes with age. Most teenage drivers don't realize this till it is too late. He got lucky. He lived to learn this lesson. He learned that it was something he could have avoided entirely.

Now bring on the arguments.

Glad to hear that you are alright and drove away! Just a curiousity, the '02 you have doesn't come equipped with ESP does it? I was running your scenario through my head and realized that in my '07 the electronic babysitter would have corrected this immediately. Just me being curious, and once again glad to hear you are alright.

NO

Your right... Things do happen for a reason. like this tread getting locked. As a cop on this forum who investigate arguments, The ONLY reason arguments like this happen is because of HUMAN error. And it's not going to happen here.

02's didn't have ESP.

Glad to hear it turned out as well as it did for you.

Now let's not bring on the arguments and ragging on him and let this post serve as an eye opener like it was intended to be. He has learned his lesson and his post may help others realize that we all need to be aware of the conditions we're driving in. Thanks.

Thanks guys.

Like i said not trying to be a jerk. I just wanted to say glad he surrvived and that he lived to learn the lesson.

Again, not intending to start a fight here, just some people have to argue about everything.

Thanks Nanette and Burchie

I don't intend to rag on anyone. Having worked in the automotive field, I got to participate in crash testing and such so in my post I was trying to share some of the facts about how lucky he was. Strickly speaking crashes happen for what ever reason. Speed, weather, animals in the road, etc. It's just part of life. If I seemed to scold, I didn't mean it to sound hurtful. I apologise if I did.

What's great to hear is that the KJ didn't roll over on it's roof in this situation. That's when your coffee cup becomes unstuck from the cup holder and hits you on the head to add insult to injury.

Life's good guys, no worries.

I had to do a heck of a swerve to avoid two deer a couple nights ago. One of the many thoughts going through my head was "I don't want to hit one of them and have to clean up a sticky soda mess." If that was my biggest worry, I figure I'd have done ok.

Not to sound like I am preaching but... The WORSE thing you could ever do is swerve. It is just a deer, as sighted in another thread. What about the semi or the tree behind it as you swerve.

ANY state trooper will tell you they can fix yer KJ, but you are harder to fix or replace.

"Drvive THROUGH the deer" DO NOT SWERVE. That is what causes most of the fatalities in Deer vs. vehicle accidents. That and after hitting one stopping to see if the deer is ok. Had a kid here do that and get plastered by a semi on the expressway. His car was still drivable byt he stopped and went back to check on the deer and splatt.

I'll try to remember this next time I drive back from OBX (however slim that chance is right now, but that's another story).

Makes sense. I did a quick check of what was around me and what my options were. Straight section, no oncoming traffic. If either of those wasn't true....it would have been good bye bambi without a doubt. Between me and my sweetie or the deer, screw the deer.

it is very difficult to not swerve. reflex action dictates that you do swerve, but that may be the last reflex action you have. just be careful.

People get tunnel vision when they see a deer or anything in their path and it makes it difficult to think and see other obstacles. but you can safely practice it. as you drive pick a pot hole in the road and steer OVER it, assuming it's not too big, and not around it.

Teach your eyes to see all obstacles around the pot hole BEFORE your find them the hard way. Maybe when that deer or dog is in your path you will think fast and look past it and around it accessing the dangers.

But just stear through it, and then make jerky.

Wait that's just not fair. I do this now anyway. Come on, how many Jeep owners actually AVOID a pothole? :P

oh wow. I'm truly sorry for posting this story..I never thought it would bring up this much of an argument.

Some people should never reply to a thread...sometimes it's better to just read and observe, leave your comments to yourself and not try and boost your post count .

Again..Admins/L.O.S.T./Burchie/Darby/EVERYONE...sorry I posted this. It was an accident...everyone can claim what was the "cause" of it, but in the end everything turned out GOOD for me (MOST IMPORTANTLY) as far as health and well being goes and the KJ as well...which I lucked out on.

Drive safe everyone...I wont reply to this post anymore. Thanks.

IT'S YOUR FAULT. YOU SHOULD BE BANNED.  How dare you try to have a conversation on this board.

And you should of posted this in the "off topic" not the "general" section. That's 2 strikes against you.

Just kidding. It's not your responsibility on how people reply to your threads.

If that were to happen, I would actually be able to read the board, not police it.
