What are others observing?, I am changing every 4000 miles and am using the factory oil and filter, am going to change to Mobile 1, this time as it's about time to change, and have added 1 quart all ready, this is the second interval that this has happened. I've checked for leaks and found none. This is mostly highway speeds and rest at lower gravel road speeds.

M1 is the factory oil. More than likely, the oil is going into the intercooler.

Check your air filter too. I had the same thing happen once and I believe it was caused by a wet air filter.

There's another thread on this recently. How much oil are you putting in? If your bringing it to the top mark your putting in too much oil and it's being blown into the intercooler as mentioned. It seems the top line is more of a MAX then FULL. Next change put in exactly what the book calls for and you'll see it's not at the top mark. As I recall it's 6 quarts and 13 ounces. Since I've learned this mine does not use any but before when I filled it to the line it did as you mention.

This thread reminds me to check my oil level soon :D

Did a change 600miles ago, maybe it's time to check my level...

Same here. I drain it for a good 30 minutes then refill by volume, not by the dipstick. My Provent does get a decent amount of mist, but when it settles, it's only a ounce or two. I may top off the sump with a tablespoon :) I don't think anyone on this board (save possibly some pre-05 owners overseas) have enough miles on their CRDs to have any significant "consumption" via rings or other leakage.

I do the same. Drain it to the last drop, then fill with the specified amount. I will typically try to get the level to the middle of the "zone" on the dipstick, but I always check it hot and on a level surface.

My Provent doesn't puke out much. Maybe 2 or 3 oz in 5000 miles. Nowhere near enough to fill up the drain tube. I just drain it at my oil change which I do every 5000 miles (I like round numbers).

I would hope that this little engine will keep going for hundreds of thousands of miles. I know it will need maintenance, but I'm hoping for 200k before I have to pull the head.

I will most likely have sold it by then.

Is that a special expression of a sort? Pulling the head?

Or is that just because the head will crack at that point which would be normal?

Mine has 75,600ish miles on it. Don't have consumption noticeable on the dipstick. Do have some slugde in oil catch can.

This time around I'm looking forward to see if I get any consumption in the next 6,000 miles but I doubt it.

First 18,000 miles the level on the dipstick appeared the same (about mid way between MAX and FILL which is where the 6.4 quarts on a new oil change puts it). Most recently at 24,000 miles it was at the FILL line. Changed every 6k. Only difference is I pulled my 4000lb pop-up camper a few times this last oil change. If the gap between FILL to MAX on the dipstick is 1qt, the I used half a quart.
