Hello everyone,

Its time to get my transmission oil changed and I would like to buy a transmission filter and gasket, called a filter kit. For some reason though the local Autoparts store doesnt have it. Where can I find one?

Daniel

The dealer will have the filters, but not a gasket. They use RTV - yuck. The only gasket I have found is here.
Let me know if it fits.

I got my filters and gasket from PepBoys. You may be able to order it off their website.

Napaonline.com I believe is the website.
I found all parts available at Napa Auto parts locally however when I did mine. Took 11 qts of AT+4 to refill (left pan off overnite)
Please note:
There are two filters needed; a pancake and a cute little cylinder spin on. The pancake filter kit included the replacement gasket for 545RFE.
And the gasket for 545RFE is different from 45RFE.

The job is not tuff but a bit messy.

Then how do these folks sell one pan for the 68RFE, 545RFE, and 45RFE?

I think member RTstabler has one. Actually, I think a couple of people do. Not compatible with the trans skid plate though if I remember correctly.

I wouldn't put anything other than Mopar in a trans that is still under warranty. Especially with the failure rate on the torque converters. It just introduces another issue into a situation already full of issues. I know, the law says they have the burden of proof, but how often does it really work out that way? Just my .02

I could pull the part numbers out of my files when I get home if somebody wants to shop for the Mopars at an online store.

Do you have a part number for that kit? When I try to look it up at napaonline it tries to tell me I have a 45RFE transmission.

I don't think we have high tranny temps. My Lightning trans ran around 160-180 degrees with it getting up to ~200 in hot traffic. My Liberty hasn't broken 160 degrees yet on a hot day. However, I think the temps were measured in different locations so I know that affects it.

Where is the spin on filter for the tranny located? I didn't even know we had a spin on other than the oil filter.

The spin on is in the pan. One of the front corners, if I remember right.

As Stan mentioned earlier in the thread, the only filters and gasket that show up for the CRD are for a 45RFE transmission...which we don't have (as we have the 545RFE). I went into an actual NAPA, and the guy showed the same transmission...45RFE. Does anybody have the relevant NAPA part numbers, or know of an application that would use the same filters and gasket? If not, I'll suppose I'll look elsewhere for the gasket and filters.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

Replying to myself, but it seems the 2005 Grand Cherokee with a Hemi has the 545RFE. If so, I should just be able to get the relevant part numbers with respect to that.

Seems to be ATP18594 for the pancake/gasket and ATP18593 for the spin-on filter though.

I'd investigate further, but I have to leave work now.

In any case, if anybody knows anything about the right NAPA parts, please let me know.
