Rubicon03, I've been running the ORM for a while and have not noticed any difference in cold starting with or without the ORM. But the CRD has not seen temperatures less than 0F yet.

All those waiting for complete kits, your wait is growing shorter.

I have officially installed and tested my own SEGR box, and it is a success. As a matter of fact this thing went in so well you cannot tell the vehicle is modified at all. I would like to extend my gratitude to all those before me who developed and improved the mod, and especially GMCTD for publishing the connector pinouts and color codes, as they were dead-nuts accurate. I mounted the box under the left side dash near the accelerator and ran the harness out under the main harness. With the panels re-installed, there is no trace of wiring, and of course no CEL. The SEGR harness come in the engine compartment below the brake booster and runs up into the main cable raceway using an open existing slot. With the black sheathing on the SEGR harness it is not only hidden, but looks FACTORY. And the splicing is all done in the raceway, so no loose wires show anywhere.

So anyway, I'm working on the install instructions. I will have some pictures and ideas on connecting the harness, along with all the pinouts and color codes, now double verified. I have run two built boxes in the CRD, and I will run all of them before I ship. Hang in there, I should be shipping by the end of next week.

8) 8) 8)

we would like one but are scared of the wiring task....also...since under warranty the dealer finding out about...

on a side note...the egr runs while in park right? so those who end up idling for long periods will still see the negative impact of the egr??

So, the "inside the engine bay wiring" thing is all about taping, untaping, unbolting, bolting, unclipping, re-clipping, and a little soldering in the middle. It's totally your call on if want to do it, but it's really not that daunting if you're comfortable working with computers/mechanical things and you're methodical about it. That portion of the job took me a few hours in a cold, somewhat poorly lit garage. I've done similar project before but never in the engine bay of a vehicle. Same thing with dealer issues. Done well, most dealers won't even notice, much less question the system installed (especially if bypassed).

As for the circuit function, with the system installed, the EGR never gets power. You run both upstream and downstream EGR splices to the harness-side plug for potential use by a bypass plug, but in the internal socket, nothing connects to the egr side pin. What DOES reactivate while the transmission is in P/N is the Air Flow Valve that restricts intake air. This helps in smooth shutdowns, etc. Internally, the SEGR has a big resistor that dissipates any current that would have opened the valve for exhaust gasses, completing the circuit and allowing the computer to go along its merry way.

Been running the SEGR box now for 3 weeks and love it. NO CEL light, seems to run smoother
and quieter.
Today, figured I would see what the code reader says. All functions normally, including
the EGR. It doesn't even know the EGR is completely out of the circuit.
My thanks to all that have made this possible.

Steve :D

OK, first four complete kits will ship this week. Got all the harnesses built, bypass plugs built, and the boxes are all built and tested, both on the bench and in my CRD. I will be printing instructions Monday and hope to ship on Tuesday. Kits are shipping to calcrd, PhoenixCRD, squiggleman and kjcrd117.

Not much to see, but I can send you a .pdf of the install procedure I wrote if you want.

If you're good at prototyping and board layout, there's not really a functional advantage, although your board may be bigger. Loco's taken most of the work out by having the paths printed on a double-sided thru-hole board. All you need to do with the PCB is solder on the components and connect the wires to the external parts (like the resistor and harness).

I don't know if the PCB manufacturer will sell a single PCB, or 5 PCBs, but for those industrious people it might be a possible path towards building a SEGR. LocoCRD would be in a position to say whether there is any value in buying a small quantity of the SEGR PCBs. All the other parts are readily available.

I saw one for sale in the For Sale area.
I'm planning on finishing my install this weekend. I'd be happy to help you with the install if you can get one.

It's shipping as we speak. Expect it by the week's end or early next week.

I am specifically speaking of the "Synthetic EGR" PCB. A generic PCB is not something anyone would wish to do, although anyone could lay a new one out given the schematic.

Thanks UFO....

With the new CRD in the garage, I'm getting more excited than ever to get the mod done...

kind of a bump..

I got an unassembled kit from Chrispitude (sp?)... it looked like a pretty rough task for someone that has not soldered before. but after one test go on a randomly purchased board and socketed 20 pin connector i had at it. 2 hours later it was complete and looks good (the board that is). If pics are wanted i can take some and post.

The task tomorrow is making all the wire connections from the board to the plug and the wiring loom. it is supposed to be frigid so i dunno if i am going to attempt the install.

I am in need of a few answers though... well more of a clarification. after 2.5 to 3 hours of reading this entire thread there is a little haze. First, the wire to the MAF is going to be cut completely and one end coming from C1 is going to connect to pin 2, and the end going to the MAF is going to connect to pin 3. Second is similar to the first except it is with the EGR and the third is the same but with the AFC.

And as i typed this out and looked over the sheet for the info i needed i think it cleared up. Many thanks to all that put in to make this happen.

So i am not taken of the list of the next run my little brother is in need of a kit so he will just take my place in line. and he will go through me. I have contributed to the purchase of 3CRD's so far. mine, my little bro's, and my ex's. hahaha.

In all if you think building the SEGR is a hard thing it is like a little kid in a roller coaster, looks scary but is actually kinda fun. :)
