A/C compressor runs with regular heat?

Now, I know that the A/C compressor will run when the A/C is on (duh) and when it's set to defrost to help dry the windows off, but the other day when I was trying out my new aircomressor that hooks up to the battery I noticed the A/C compressor was kicking on. Thinking I might have the defrost going I checked it, but it was just on heat. Do they have the A/C run anytime the heter is on period? It's a bit annoying since I'm sure it doesn't help my gas mileage, it's cold enough here right now to hurt my mileage, but to add on top of that the A/C compressor running is just too much for me I think.

Any one know why exactly they designed it to operate this way?

even though we have a AC on/off button the ac will run when the selector is on foot or defrost.

Pretty dumb IMO. When its 5 degrees out and snow melts and then refreezes once it hits my window theres no reason I need to chill the outside air before my heater heats it up.

Plus anyone living in a dry climate(like me) doesnt need the drying effects of running the AC when its cold.

A/C also runs in the floor position on the 05+ libertys.

Its stupid and wastes gas.

that is stupid, I'll have to look into how to disable it when it's on the floor position.

You can mod the AC heater controls. I started doing it to one I got at the junkyard, but I couldnt get the back off so I stopped. Its on the "one of these days" list.

There is a thread on here somewhere, probably in fabrication, where it tells how to disable it.

The compressor is not running to chill the air, it is running to dry it out.

The compressor is not running to chill the air, it is running to dry it out.

It's also running to help the longevity of the compressor. The lifespan is considerably reduced when it sits idle for the winter months or any other long periods of time. You can alter if you feel it's necessary, but it is running for a reason.

You might be hearing the clutch on the viscous heater kicking in and out. It sounds just like the a/c. I don't doubt the a/c cycles also.....

Nope, I'm a gasser. it's definitely the A/C that is kicking on, I was watching it.
