Which Muffler? Pipe size?

Can I please get suggestions on which muffler to run on the CRD? It looks like some have used the 12867 magnaflow. My question is what size pipe is on the CRD? Both before and after the muffler? The 12867 runs 3" in and 3" out. I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row before using the saw. Thanks

I used the 15780 or 15870, whichever was for the 05-07. Fitment was great. 2.5" tubing. It was really close to my rear springs and airbags.

Right before and after the muffler, it is 2 inches. After the flange between the muffler and the converter (towards the converter side), it is 2.5 inches. A lot of people have ran a Magnaflow 12226, basically cutting the pipe right after the converter, running a small 2.5" pipe run, then fitting in the muffler.

Basically it is 2 inches directly before and after the muffler, and 2.5 inches everywhere else.

Hope this makes sense. If not, surely somebody will clarify things.

Does the inlet/outlet need to be offset? The magnaflow 12866 is a straight through with 2.5 inlet/outlet. I'll have to look under the CRD. Thanks

I bought a full 15870 system. I liked that it was fully stainless steel, which should help with our salty roads up here. If the tubing on the full Magnaflow system wasn't stainless steel, I probably would have just hacked in the muffler.

Okay,

Went out in the cold. I see why the run an offset, because the factory is that way. I don't really like the offset. I may build a custom pipe and between put the straight muffler. Too many curves in this system. Now I must think on this. Thanks to all for the input.

A couple of us have just made a 3" from the catback with no muffler...works and sounds great. I don't think a muffler is needed...the turbo takes care of the noise.

The muffler installer can undo the offset and make everything flush without a lot of trouble and no extra pipe work. I think that it might be another one of those Chrysler, easier to throw it together this way, things.

Does anybody have sounds of it with the muffler cut off? I was thinking of swapping the muff, but it seems more and more people say just ditch it and run straight back from the cat.

I had the local shop cut mine out and install straight pipe in its place and my wife has never noticed. The turbo does a pretty good job of muffling. There are a few times that it is a little louder: passing, starting on cold mornings etc, but just driving around town or on the highway the difference is negligible. Oh and it only cost me about thirty to have it done, so I figured it was a cheap experiment. I don't have any recordings because the sound just doesn't translate well over the internet.
