so i took my jeep to have the ball joint replaced today and got a call 2 hrs later letting me know that they had messed up the hub nut.. i couldnt believe this. i didnt even think that the hub had to come off to fix that. the part that really got me upset though was that they actually blamed this on ME???? they said it was my fault since i take it off road so much. first how do they know how much i go off road ( i do go every week  ). it would have gotten wet from the rain on the road just as easily and caused it to rust though. this is comming from a company that sets up a simulated 4x4 course at car shows to show what they can do off road?? i have no way to get to class in the morning, and i really hope they dont try to make me pay for this cause i WILL NOT!!!! they were very very rude to me and i will NEVER take my jeep back to them for anything not even to pump my tires up. this is why i do all my own repairs and i should have just done this one. i guess thats what u get for free. heck i would have been cool with all this if they could have took the blam but to blame me really made me upset. thanks for letting me vent i feel way better now and im sure i will when my jeep is back.

Man that is crazy for sure, some idiot in the back screws up something and the customer is expected to pay! So they did not do anything at all? I do all my own work as well, so I dont end up in these same things.
Good Luck is all I can say, its in no way your fault, just due to you going off road some.

It seems like if you didn't have bad luck, you wouldn't have any luck at all.

I haven't done KJ balljoints, but in a lot of IFS 4x4s you have to take the nut that holds the CV inside the hub assembly loose to have enough room to work the balljoint in. When I had mine apart, it seemed like it'd have enough travel to do it without taking the CV nut off, but again...I haven't done KJ balljoints.

if THEY f'd up your hub nut, tell them "fix it, you broke it"

yeah im not taking any money/checks/cards with me tomorrow. i am not going to pay them for something they messed up. it just seemed like that was what they were going to do by blaming it on me for going off road in it. i have gotten very poor customer service everytime i have had to deal with this dealer. wether it be the part dep. or the service dep. they have always been VERY RUDE to me. i think this place is one of those shops that tries to squeeze every dime they can out of u. i wont be paying anything though and i kinda figured this was going to happen. also i think they could just be buying theirselves some time. they could just not have had time to do it and lied to me i dont know but anyways i wont be buying the wife's Commander from them next winter thats for sure!!!

Not sure how they do it at the dealers, I took mine apart myself and just took the knuckle to the local shop and they pressed it in and out.

Yes I would go with no money at all, say just give me the keys and leave!

 that exactly what i told my wife i was going to do. that also what i though about just taking it apart. i didnt see the need/ have to no other way to do it, like the dealer told me. i told them they were worng but they wouldnt listen. maybe thats just procedure or something and in that case i understand it just really bites that i have to miss school tomorrow because the strip out a bolt.

x2, Also report them to Jeep HQ, I'm sure with a little searching on the internet, you could find an email address or a phone number for Jeep HQ to report dealership problems.

Just to alleviate some of the frustration you're not the first person that something like this has happened to: Damaged axle threads with ball joint recall.

Hope you get it resolved ASAP.

thank u very much for that link. wow i cant believe he payed. well in my case they did say "they" striped it out. but they also blamed the fact on me cause it was rusted and i caused it by going off road. i think mine is just the nut itself nothing more. i will not pay a dime though i dont care what they say. i wish i would have recorded that phone call though

Don't take their abuse if you do they win, If you act like a wimp and allow them to abuse you then they continue to treat you as a wimp because you allow it.
Don't be a door mat, If you let them then don't come whining about it . Don't mean to spank you , but I have met many who complain how they are treated but do nothing about it. Remember the squeeky wheel gets the greese, so stand tall and go for it go to upper management and make your voice be heard. More often then not they don't know what is going on in the lower ranks. Once they hear things change try that first then if not satisfied check with your local radio or TV for a consumer advacate. The Stealerships hate bad press so try to play nice and if that doesn't work play dirty!!!!  :P
