Hey all... just seeking some other opinions on this. My warranty expires in about 4k miles. I took a look at the Chrylser extended warranties and I can get one for my CRD that is 7 years/100k miles that is strictly a powertrain warranty...it runs about $1800. After taking a look at our $6k+ diesel engine and $2500+ tranny this is seeming like a pretty good deal.... what do you guys think?

(I know this was brought up in another topic but I thought I'd ask the CRD guys as we can be looking at some costly repairs)

You keep sliding that thing backwards & sideways down switchbacks, you're gonna need some kind of warranty.
For what it's worth, I bought my CRD used and purchased the extended warranty in the beginning.

I am not going to bad mouth Chrysler extended warranty for you and I have not read it. As an EX-repair shop owner manager, most of the extended warranties are not worth the toner let alone the paper they are written on due to the exclusions on what is covered. The dealer gets a commission and Chrysler puts the money in their bank account. They will pay if and when they feel like it.
Ask GMCTD a retired tech for his opinion in a PM since he has seen what Chrysler has paid up on.

3rd party ones are pretty worthless - however the Chrysler one is comparable to standard warranty with a $100 deductible.

Statistically you're dollars ahead if you take that amount of money and put it in the bank in case you need to fix something.

The odds of the engine having a warranty level claim are pretty low, and the fixes recommended on the forum - lift pump, Racor, Suncoast - will void the warranty anyway.

it's only cost effect if you think a major component will die, that said Jeep's corporate wide reliability is not great - they tend to need some work.

So that brings up and interesting dilemma.... does one spend the money on the TC, lift pump, etc. and hope the inherent problems are resolved, or do you leave it as-is with the warranty coverage and wait for things to break? hmmmm.,...

Part of having a Jeep is the freedom to modify and upgrade.

Stock is for Luger pistols that loose their value if you clean the blood off them.
If you want a Luger call my friends at Simpson Ltd 309-342-5200 and ask for Bob, Brad, or Dave :P

If you want a CRD that runs right, install a lift pump first so you don't trash out your CP3 and keep going........
...Modify to taste

I bought the extended warranty when I bought the CRD. The warranty includes free oil changes, so at the price of Mobil 1, it works out to be free

The free oil changes - were from your dealer - not the warranty

I bought the extended warranty because I didn't know about LOST and I didn't have any confidence in a 1st year vehicle (but I really wanted the Diesel and I love the way it drove)

I doubt that it will be cost effective - I would have been way ahead to put the money in the bank.
