A couple weeks ago my MIL came on and I had a P0401 code.

I brought it to the dealer to be fixed. They replaced the EGR valve. On the way home from the dealer, the MIL came back on, same code P0401.

The CRD goes back to the dealer for a 2nd time. They install another EGR valve and may have replaced the hoses (the checkout girl had not gotten the paper work done yet). On the way home, the MIL came back on again, P0401 code.

The CRD is back for the 3rd visit at the dealer.

They said the hoses had a lot of deposits in them and wondered if i use home heating fuel or kerosene. I do not. I told them to test the fuel and check. I think they did, because they said they looked at the fuel and it was fine.

What can I tell these people to help them fix my vehicle?

I have 32,000 miles on it so far, and everything has been covered under warranty. So the upside is the work has all been free. But I would like to have it back and in working order. If one EGR lasted 32,000 miles, the others should last more than 1 day.

Have them check the FCV valve - the butterfly valve on the intake manifold. From what I remember back when we had the initial rash of EGR replacements, one or more of the EGR fault codes would be thrown by either a bad EGR valve OR a bad FCV valve. Sounds like that's the case if the code immediately comes back.

At 22,000 the stealership replaced my AFC control valve.
(It is the easiest to get to). Drove it a bit and still was throwing the
code. Than they replaced the EGR valve.
I brought it home, hooked back up my EHM and installed
my SEGR kit. I now have 27,000 miles and they can shove the rest of my warranty
All that soot, my friend don't belong being blowed back
thru our tractors.
Thats my story.

I just threw the code......I checked upstream first and found that my airfilter was pretty clogged. I replaced that and had the code cleared via my friendly neighborhood oil change place.

Been over a month and haven't thrown the code since. Don't know if I'm just lucky, just delaying the inevitable, etc...will let you know.

Got the CRD back this morning, and it seems fixed but only time will tell. No more MIL.

The dealer had no idea what the problem was and had to call a place in Vermont for advice. STAR was no help.

They fixed the problem by replacing the Flow Control Valve (as mentioned in an earlier post).

Here is the print out:

Customer states check engine light on. Performed testing found same codes for EGR.
Replaced EGR and Tube again retested. Found Control Valve Causing EGR failure.
Replaced Control Flow Valve.
