We need to get our car inspected by an 'engineer' after every change you make on it. Which will cost you up to 300€...

Than if they approve they add a line to your owners license saying it's OK to have the mod........

We get TÜW as you call it or TUV in Germany or MOT in UK or ITV in Spain....it's a European thing I think, every 2 years or yearly vehicle safety inspection.

I have mine valid until 10-'09 so I'm good for the time being. If you get a coil lift they probably won't notice since it looks OEM!

Jimmy you beat me again in replying :D

We can get our stuff put into the registration as well. We just don't need the engineer to do it, we have the people performing the inspections do it for us. I am not sure it costs anything, normally an inspection costs €60.

Where can I get an OME lift w. springs/shocks for €700??? My price in Denmark is more like €1,100!!

I`ve had OME for a couple of weeks now and I´ve been very happy with it so far.
Kj just rolls over speed bumps and the fron and rear feels like better balanced now.
Tried the flex too the other day - drove over a ditch and back - flexed fine.

I could seriously recommend the OME.

Yeah, OME is great.....but still 800€ Anyway, mine now looks like this with the daystar fitted, not bad for 129€:

Did a 'how to':

http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=29217

Needs longer rear schocks though! Stock shocks are only ok for asphalt after you're lifted. Why? If you hit a bump and car goes up they go 'boing', they cannot extend that extra 2"....

We have pretty much the same Mot here in Finland - corrosion, joints and brakes beeing inspected very thoroughly.
Alas - there´s all kinds restrictions, such as - the wheel offset shouldn´t differ more than 15mm each side.
I wrote else where, that the light bulbs on road use shouldn´t exceed 55/60W. And in general - only two extra beam lights allowed...all kinds of little things, that makes wheeling less fun, you know

Are you sure it's the 2,5"? Daystars Tech dept told me that it's to high a lift for the CRD. On the manual it also states 2.5" not for '02 or CRD models so that would be a double No No.

Anyway, if it is the 2,5" I would very much like to know how in the h*ll did you get that front puck in?

Furthermore it sagged a bit in the front so it's not as nice and level as in the pic, doing a 'clevis job' this weekend.

Hi Tony

My jeep maybe a 2002, but it's a 2003 spec so it is on the lowered spring. The front strut was put in by taking out the upper control arm and using small spring compressors. Then it was easy.

Got a problem now though because the upper ball joint seals have gone. So probably going to order jeepin al's uca.

OK, then yes. Mine now is as hard as rock on the front, wobbely in the rear. Not realy sure if I like that al that much. Let's first get some better rear shocks. If that doesn't do it I'll move to OME....someday.

But it looks good!

I have rancho 17004 shocks in the rear. They are pretty good. My front end is also a little stiff, but it's not too bad.

Ok so forget my last remark on this lift kit, I went wheelin today with a friend who has a KJ that has the OME lift. We started out on some light trails, as I got more confident we moved into the rough stuff. All rocks, we live in the mountains.

It went great. The stiffer front allows me to take on most anything without scraping the paint of the skid plate. The bigger flex on the rear keeps the wheels on the ground so yeah, I am very happy.

I got so exited I took a trail that scared the crap out of me the last time I tried it (2 years ago I reversed back out of there) there's a big hole filled with water with some huge boulders in it you need to cross first before you even get on the 'trail' then it's all big rocks and hairpins going downhill. There's no way you can steer clear of anything because it's all trees and brushes at both sides, scraping your mirrors :D (and doors and everything else, picked up my first 'pinstripes').

Cut a long story short, I can go where OME goes! And when I get some decent tires and rear shocks it will be even better  .

I got a full set of springs with papers (don't remember if it's a general thing or specific TUV papers but that doesn't matter anyway) on Ebay Germany for a price around 500€, maybe they were Eibach but can't check this right now from my workplace. Was about 1.5" of lift which is about all the car can take without further mods or later problems. Fitting was easy as I had coil compressors (you need long ones as you must compress them a lot to get 'em out). Only the front made for a bit more work with the shock inside the spring. No difference to factory ride and they add effectively those 40mm in wheel travel.

Quess what, Tony?!

Those spacer lifts are not allowed in finnish road traffic - if not sooner, one would get busted in MOT

United Europe, eh?

I have been trying to find any thing regarding lift laws here in Germany.... If anyone knows what the German law says about lifts and types of lifts allowed I would appreciate it.

Hi Jim,
Don't know where you live so I can give only general hints.
First place, if you live in Germany, is to go to your local friendly TÜV. I found they are way better than you'd suppose. The engineer in charge went through all his papers when I turned up with a problem. If he's willing he can find out LOTS as most all parts have already be scrutinered somewhere. In the end it depends on him alone if he will give you green light for a mod.
I found they will agree to almost all sensible mod and even some I'd qualify as dangerous. A friend of mine had a Suzuki SJ413. He cut off the body, made a pickup of it, lifted it 3 inches (that's a lot on such a small car) and fitted 32 inch high tyres. The engineer asked him first on the details how he made it and how he wanted to use it, thenhad him drop of the car for 24 hours and drove it home that evening to road test it. Normally road test is only done for half an hour or so. Then he gave him a paper saying it's ok to drive and we went to our inspection in Luxembourg who took the mods without a glitch and stated them all in the registration papers.

In Germany you can switch between different TÜVs, you don't have to take the nearest. Some are more restrictive than others. And it will cost you real money, depending on how much work is involved. But I swallowed it as I always got good service and, even more important, good reasons when they didn't take it.

All this does not apply if you have either COC papers or "Typgutachten" or any other official paper coming with the part. COCs and Typgutachten are best as they give general clearance for all countries of the EC without need for further approval. Other certificates mostly require you to visit your inspection station and have it checked again and often have it written into your registration as well.
Feel free to ask more if there's something more.

Alain

Uffe: Where can you buy the OME kit for for "only" EUR 1.100?

I paid EUR 1.463 for the OME HD kit and to get it installed (Team Bertelsen)!

But it really makes the ride nicer.

And it lifted the car at least 2" inches in the front and close to 3" in the back.

And no problem with the inspection guys - our car has just passed the first check.
