As i posted earlier, my tailgate wont open.

I took off the little access square and blindly felt around - everything seems attached likagewise.

Is there a way to remove the plastic attached to the tailgate above and beyond the access square.

[dramatic music] With the tailgate closed ?[/dramatic music]

Yeah it is real easy, once the tail gate is open.

Good luck.

if i remember correctly you pop the bottom first straight out towards yourself and then lift up to detache the upper part of the plastic. hope this helps.

thats crazy enough to work...

the plastic part can come off... so there are replacement plastic parts somewhere... right?

sir sam - would cutting the plastic off from the inside to access the full linkage and then replacing the plastic if/when i get the door open be a viable option?

I would a 80% chance that cutting the plastic to get it off wouldn't help.

I think what you should do it is get a torx screwdriver that fits the tailight screws, it is usually thin so you may be able to sneak it in the gap between the tailight and the door, then unscrew the taillight and pop it out on the left side, then you will have access to the door hinge, with the spare removed and the window open you then might be able to pull the door out enough to either get it to release, from the latch, or get it far enough out that you can then safely remove the door panel and mess with the linkages.

This should give you an idea of what it looks like on that side, iirc there are only 2 screws per side of the tailight, and then you can get access to the hinge bolts, i think this is your best bet, and is the least drastic action at this point.

Did you yet fiddle around with the little switch mechanism on top of the tailgate, or won't the window open either?
