I am on the verge of trading my Jeep in a newer release due to the never ending issues, however so as to maximise my trade-in value I need to resolve this odd noise from semingly the fan belt area (hopefully not timing belt area).
Every since the timing belt was replaced I have noticed this noise, while in the vehicle idling, driving, etc the noise is not noticeable. However from the outside it is very noticable. To try give an idea of the noise with a sound clip is going to be difficult.
To start it is nice and rythmic, it increases tempo as the revs increase. It at idle is around 1.5 beats per second. The sound could be said to be a woosh.woosh.woosh....
Does not seem to be the fan, the belt seems to run nicely along the various components. The belt does seem to move a bit across the idler pulley (forward and back) yet the pulley stays 100% in position, no wobble or similar.
If I were to isolate an area, I would say when in front of the vehicle the noise is louder on the right side (drivers side on LH drive, passenger side in my case).
Doesn't seem to be the alternator, but then the noise that a 2.5CRD generates makes it very difficult to isolate a noise, probably would land up getting my ear cought in the belt
When the timing belt was replaced, so was the idler pulley, the other 2 pulleys are old.
Thanks
