I have a quick question about mufflers:

I can get a Flowmaster 50 SUV installed for around $200 at a local muffler shop but the I called up a dealer to see what they can offer and they only install magnaflow's. He quoted me $375 for a magnaflow with exhaust tip.

Are magnaflow's comparable to Flowmaster or should I just that the deal on the Flowmaster?

Thanks for all the help!

Just my personal opinion, I don't like the sound of the flowmasters....too raspy and loud. I always put magnaflows on, and love it on my KJ....I'm gonna put another magnaflow on my KK since I know how its going to sound, really deep, and it wont pop at high RPMS. Good luck in whatever you do, but I got quoted $275 here in FL for the Magnaflow "BIG SUV" muffler with a stainless "Silverline" tip. So I'd do some more shopping. Good luck and keep us posted.

Well talking with the muffler shop here in Denver I can get a Magnaflow 18" with SS tip for about $200 installed. Just depends on which tip I want. I think he said muffler install is about $175-185. Do Magnaflow's not have "model" #'s or do they just go with sizes. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I know if you go to the website www.magnaflow.com they have part numbers, but I dont know the exact model # that I use....? PS the Dodge Nitro bolt on exhaust will bolt right up and sounds very good. If you go to www.NitroForumz.com they have pics and video's with sound, they also have videos of the flowmaster mufflers which personally I think sound really bad.

i personally love flowmaster and am not big on the magnaflows. My neighbor has a magnaflow on his cavalier which had he same motor as my other car but i had a flowmaster and mine was much deeper sounding.

I have a super 44 flowmaster on mine now and love it

The shop where I probably I will go to told me that Magnaflow is good for vehicles that have catalytic converters while Flowmaster is good for pre-catalytic converters. Anyone know if this is true?

Nate,

It's called House of Brakes & Mufflers. http://www.houseofmufflersandbrakes-2.com/index.html

They are on E. Evans right at I-25 & Evans. Talked with a guy named Cory. Install for the Flowmaster 50 SUV would be around 200 with tip and about the same for the Magnaflow. When I decide which one then I'll ask them for a true invoice.

I probably won't do it for another couple of weeks. Still figuring out which one I'll use but I'm leaning more towards magnaflow.

The cat comment and I've heard that flowmaster rusts very easily. Plus I think I like the growl of the mag better. I don't think one is better than the other in aspects of mpg, power, growl but the rust might bother me. Supposedly flow uses lesser ss quality thus leading to faster rusting If you have any other info that would be great!

i dont see how they would, they are thick stainless steel also coated in black, i had one on my other car for over 2 years and no hints of rust on it.

Flowmasters would not sell that well if they all just rusted out lol

Flowmasters usually last me about 3 years till the necks rust off. The body is very thick and a good muffler shop can weld a new neck on rather easy.

I have read the threads about what exhaust people here like most, but what is surprising me the most is most of the prices I am reading range between $200-$300, the one question I have is are these systems alumnized steel or stainless steel?. Because of the stainless systems I have looked at on the web start at $400 and go up from there which is pretty accurate. Alumized is usually in the $200-$300 range, so if these systems you speak of are indeed stainless systems under $400 please send me the links your looking at. I have yet to find any stainless systems under $400. I found one system by Gibson Exhaust Sysytems that is custom fit for my KK for $422.34, which I feel is a steal. Its cat back, does not bother O2 sensor and has a 3" downpipe into a single polished 2.5" single straight outlet. :D

Thank you

I just got my Magnaflow installed and it sounds awesome! I had a local shop install it since I don't have a welding machine. It's the 18" muffler ss with a ss tip. Looks good and sounds good.

I don't feel the extra power when I'm initially going but when I press harder on the gas to pass people I can feel the difference. I do like the throaty sound to it.
