I have my CRD scheduled to get a new Suncoast TC installed on Monday. This way I will not need to get the F37 reprogramming and I will have the confidence of a diesel-rated TC.

Just a couple of questions:

1. Suncoast wants the old TC back ($50 deposit) - is it worth the hassle to send it back?

2. While the reprogramming will not be done, the "learning" part of the transmission system will be accustom to the old TC (BTW it has not been locking up in 4th or 5th lately). Will I or the folks installing the Suncoast need to do anything to reinitialize for the new Suncoast TC?

Again, thanks for any help you can offer.

Re-learning for the transmission is done by just un-hooking battery power for a few minutes.

Why send the old TC back? Would shipping not be more expensive than what SunCoast will give you?

Can't help you on the other questions though.

Shipping for me would have been $45 - I didn't figure the $5 difference was worth the hassle.

When they pull the transmission they normally disconnect the battery for safety - so you're reinitialized -if they didn't you can.

Make sure they use the +4 ATF - it's been standard for a couple of years but most 2-3 year old transmissions don't need to be rebuilt so the shop may not think about it and probably won't have it on hand - the universal stuff isn't as good.

^ X2 ^ - continually repeat the phrase "ATF +4" when in the trans shop - most people need to hear a "new" concept seven times B4 it finally soaks in - plus, show them the maintenance schedule pages in the owner's manual, simultaneously repeating "ATF +4" - "ATF +4" - "ATF +4" - some people can learn new things even while sleeping...................

FYI - the oem upgrade to +4 was two-fold in concept: 1.) +4 will survive operation at higher sustained temperatures, indicating the 545RFE is gonna run hotter, also indicating it would be wise to install an auxilliary cooler - 2.)

Ok, that's only one-fold, so ignore it, see if I care....................

I wish you would so they would have a core to rebuild for others here. :D

Yep - that is a shame, the hassle is too great to send the core back - I have a core t\c laying around, F37 6mo old when we replaced it, always in the way - still got the box, guess I'll get it done, someday - USPS Priority Mail may make it easier, much better than letting UPS trash the container with probable damage to contents.
