That means it was a quart or more low. It would explain why no oil light came on though.
Yea, I'm going to chalk it up to confused / false alarm. What I was feeling was the threading where the allen / hex wrench goes. I assumed that a standard oil plug would have threaded into it. I had never actually looked at the oil plug on the Liberty before and was looking for a bolt hanging off the oil pan that could be removed by a standard wrench. Apparently when the oil change tech was draining the oil and the gasket did fall off and was not put back in resulting in the oil leakage. And yes, I probably lost around a quart or so which made it appear to be very low and would explain why no oil light had come on yet. But, better safe than sorry and now I know.
