Yup, I am confused too. You said it was gone, that means a big, round, empty hole. I can see that if you were not familiar with the plug on this engine, which fits pretty flush and has an allen head rather than a hex head, you might have been confused but you also said it there was no oil on the dip stick. That means it was a quart or more low. It would explain why no oil light came on though.

Yea, I'm going to chalk it up to confused / false alarm. What I was feeling was the threading where the allen / hex wrench goes. I assumed that a standard oil plug would have threaded into it. I had never actually looked at the oil plug on the Liberty before and was looking for a bolt hanging off the oil pan that could be removed by a standard wrench. Apparently when the oil change tech was draining the oil and the gasket did fall off and was not put back in resulting in the oil leakage. And yes, I probably lost around a quart or so which made it appear to be very low and would explain why no oil light had come on yet. But, better safe than sorry and now I know.

My oil drain plug does not look like that. I used a regular metric socket (don't recall the size) when I changed my oil the first time. I also forgot to put the gasket on, but did not have any leakage. I have since purcahsed my own oil and filter and paid a local shop for the labor to do my oil changes (I also had them put the gasket back on the first time they did it). I just purchased a fumoto valve and will be installing it at my next oil change.

That is the original drain plug.
Did you buy your CRD new? If not maybe someone has changed
your plug out already?

Yup the plug in th epicture is the plug that came with my 05, the plug that came with the new oil pan the dealer replaced is a standard bolt looking plug...not that it matters, it will be gone next oil change and the new fumuto will be on there for good.

In fact Chrysler would save a fortune (or VM, whoever is at the end of this money train) if they just put fumotos on every CRD oil change done at the dealers. In fact they should do a "cust satisfaction campaign" notice out (in other words a non mandated recall). It would save them a fortune. Those morons are big into saving a nickle at the expense of $20 (or much more. The CRD recalls have cost Chrysler more than we paid extra for the diesel, any bets the 2.8 costs more to them than the 3.7 gasser?).

I agree.
My concern about you fellows though is: If the aluminum pan threads are striped and the dealer replaced the drain plug with an
over sized one, than how is the Fumoto going to fit if it was made for the original threads?
Just a thought is all?

It is the original. Mine was one of the last '06 models to roll off the line. I wonder if they changed the type of plug they were using?

it wouldn't unless they heli coiled it or did a tap and die job. If is very possible they just used the new style plug, which has the same thread. Best thing to do is call and ask exactly what they did and why. Explain you are concerned over it stripping because of the VM guys comments and want to use a fumuto (you may have to explain that it is a permanent plug that doesn't need to be removed with a valve)

My Fumoto valve works very well. Sooo easy to change the oil and never have to
remove that stupid plug again. It is in the glove box if I may need it some day(Pic
was above).
Please keep us posted here as you get ready to install your Fumoto, for those that
have had the pan stripped. Hopefully it fits.
