Anyone here running #2 instead of ULSD?

#2 here is around $0.14 a gallon cheaper.

I thought ULSD was diesel #2, only without the sulfer.

Both are still available is some states.
Old #2 is like 500 PPM sulper
New USLD is like 15 PPM sulper

Older big rigs still like the higher or older fuel because of the lubricity?
Newer rigs are designed to run on the newer 15 PPM, but that only applies
to the last 2 years or so.
Want a cheap Semi-Tractor? Get an older one than may go bump
on the newer fuel!!??

Just my thought is all.

Steve

I know there was speculation that older LSD would gum up the MAP sensor. I know I had to clean mine at about 10k miles. Since the switch to ULSD I haven't had to clean it at all, and I'm at 30k now, so I'd say ULSD is probably better than LSD for the CRD....

Like Reflex notes, more gunk deposition via EGR with #2/LSD. You might consider unplugging the MAF sensor to keep the EGR valve shut while running the LSD. Some note slightly better MPG with LSD too. More smoke out the tailpipe. My best MPG tank in the VW in the past few months was when I filled up with LSD in SC.

I noticed a drop in my MPG when I switch around a year ago. 2-4mpg if my memory serves.

I used #2 for about the first year I owned it.

Correct. Both LSD and ULSD are #2. there is also ULSD #1 available at some truck stops in the northern states. That is a winter issue.

You're right. There's "low sulphur" #2 fuel and "ultra-low sulphur' #2 fuel. Both are "#2 fuel".

I guess from driving the big rigs I still think of the LSD as #2 and the ULSD as ULSD.
