Is Trailer Sway Control a good idea on a KJ CRD?
I never used it with my old '76Scout II or my '73 Chevy C 30, but they had rear lief spring suspension.

Get the friction sway control if you are hauling anything lager than a utitlity trailer or somethinh that has litte frontal/side area. I haul a 21 foot travel trailer and the friction sway control is very nice. I have run without it and did not enjoy the experience very much. Our jeeps are short and light for the amount they can tow. I recently hauled a 25 foot flat deck with a 1966 Olds Delta 88 (4 door big block) on the back and the wee Heep had no troubles yanking it into the foothills of Alberta.

Yes, the short wheelbase will really benifit from sway control.

Unclear about your question regarding the battery. !2Volts is 12 Volts and the break controller wont't care.

I've seen a two and a half ton gas company service truck getting whipped around by one of those old Jaegar air compressors I also saw a oldsmobile getting whipped 90 (sideways) back and forth on the interstate.
Now for my 3000-3500 pound Casita 17 ft camper I have a sway control and a WDH. Jeep specifies a WDH when the tongue weight is 300 pounds or more. They both make my drive pleasurable

Yes the 12 V gel cell will work. It is only there to turn the brakes on IF it breaks away from the vehicle towing it.

how does that work? Its not what I thought it would be...

people will correct me if i am wrong cause i only read the description...

you bolt the big part to the trailer on the tongue and the silver part attaches to your truck hitch/bumper...
it acts like a shock does in your suspension... it slows the side to side motion of the trailer so
it is more like towing with a vehicle with a longer wheel base

It's a sliding steel bar and there's a clamp that tightens a brake pad like thing. It works by resisting movement between the TV and trailer. It's recommended to take ot off while backing up. I just loosen the clamp when backing.

I second that 100%... I have Reese WD hitch with dual-cam sway control for my 20', 3500 lb travel trailer. Makes a night-and-day diference, expecially with crosswinds and passing trucks.
