No...... Lib's OK but I really like the comfort of the G.Cherokee. Couldn't justify the price of the newly available G.Cherokee Blutec.

No, I wouldn't have bought it without the diesel.

I purchased my 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD Limited sight unseen, brand new from Reno Jeep.
I needed to tow 3500+, good fuel econony, diesel engine, 4x4, and this is the only vehicle that fit the bill.

I am waiting for the first manufacturer that comes out with a TurboDieselHybrid AWD Minivan that can tow 4,000 lbs.
The Dodge Sprinter is the closest, but they haven't released the Hybrid to the public yet, it's too tall to go in many parking garages, and the AWD is only in Europe so far.

The Sprinter also doesn't come in a camper option, like the old VW Vans did. And VW did have a Diesel 4x4 camper van.... the syncro... it's super rare, I don't think any Diesel syncros made it in the USA.

I consider myself a Ford guy although now I have two Chrysler products
in my driveway.
I would much rather have had a PowerStroke but couldn't find one I could
afford with less than 100,000 miles.
It's ok 'cause the CRD is a much more reasonable and versatile vehicle.
And its towing capacity makes up for the lack of an eight foot bed.

I had an '87 syncro, and no, no diesel syncro's made it to the US.

One of my future projects might be a TDI syncro.

Deciding factors were:

- towing ability
- winter driving
- great fuel economy

Now I feel like a sucker because it only delivers on two of these

I was looking at buying a TDI Jetta Wagon on the following grounds:

-mileage > 20mpg
-had to fit lots of crap inside
-good in the snow
-had to be "different"

I went from dealership to dealership just saying "show me something cool that I can fit my crap in that gets good mileage."

The CRD won that contest hands down.... and I had already abandoned the idea of being able to go off road due to my mileage constraint.

(and to answer the original question... I am a die hard mopar fan but the Liberty never even blipped on my radar until I test drove the CRD)

The novelty of a diesel was the ONLY reason I bought this Jeep, two years later this is the greatest mistake I've made in purchasing a vehicle. If I knew then what I know now, I would have stayed away from Jeep dealers like they had contagious HIV

Not no But, really NO. I have a Dodge Ram Cummins 3500 and wanted the wife to have a diesel because we pull with 2 vehicles, don't think pulling tandem is safe. (Thats Another subject.) And it is so sad that Chrylser decided to not continue the Libby CRD. But wth the price of diesel now it hurts to fill up any diesel rig.
:(
