Having worked for a Car Audio manufacturer for longer than I care to remember, I can tell you I had to deal with about a billion or so e-mails with sposorship requests. I can offer you a lot of advice that most people do not take.

#1 reason for sponsorship request: "you make the best stuff but I can't afford it, can you sponcer me?"
First of all, any email I had in my box with the mispelling "sponcer" was automatically deleted without being read. You being broke is not a good reason for a company to sponsor you and if you can't spell, well, you're probably not a good spokesperson either.

You have to remember that a sponsorship is an extension of a company's marketing efforts. If you've been reading the papers, you'll know that we are in recession (despite the reality being the opposite but I digress) and money is getting tight. Companies now more that every are trying to get maximum play for their marketing dollar. Individual sponsorhips rarely fit the bill.

The first thing to do is put together a sponsorship proposal which should include:

who you are
how you can be contacted
photos of you and your vehicle (corporate logos phot shopped onto the vehicle is a nice touch)
a sepcific request (not whatever you want to give me)
professional references (industry affiliates)
any press scheduled for the season (with contact info)
your seasonal show schedule for both regional and national events (Camp Jeep, EJS, 4WP Truckfest, SEMA etc)
which booths your vehicle will be on display at these shows

And most importantly, a clear and definitive explanation of how sponsoring you would be a viable extension of the marketing efforts of the firm.

I once had a kid (once out of all the attempts) do it right. He had photos and a plan. He sent the package to me via mail in a nicely bound report. The only thing he forgot was his contact info, no return address, nothing.

You have to do your homework first. The worst thing to do is send e-mails around looking for hand outs.

Good luck.

Great advice. But I couldn't resist pointing out that you misspelled misspelling. :P
