Um, Air Now Supply sells ProVents for $130 w/ free ground shipping.

http://www.airnowsupply.com/tdi/index.htm

Drain plug sounds interesting though - Have a tendency to lose the drain plug washer in the oil pan.

Yes the cost from the place you listed $130 + $29.50 = $159.50 or about the same as from my friend after the shipping cost and in all truth his may end up costing $2 to $3 more, but he is a small business man that I know personaly and he's been to my home and I to his home. He's a square shooter and not making any real money off of us, or anything we order from him. Where he makes his money is when people bring him their diesels to work on, injector repair/replacement, injection pump repair/replacement and any thing else needed such as timing belt replacement for belt driven overhead cam diesel VW's. Guess what, we have a timing belt and it will need replacement about 80k to 100k miles.

Some also want the AFE airfilters for their CRD's or maybe even the Amsoil Nanofiber filters for the CRD when they become available, and we can do a group buy for those also.

I got mine from airnowsupply. free shipping total $130.00 . you don't need a replacement filter before at least 100K so why buy one now !

Well that's not what the guy I talked to told me, he said about a we would get was 12,000 to 15,000 miles on the filter.

I contacted Reliable Industries and they were the ones who told me 12,000 to 15,000 miles.

Strange. When I ordered mine the guy form airnowsupply (Idk if we've all been talking to the same guy) said that Provent is going to be making a smaller filter which he's happy about because with these large one and our small engines he said he wouldn't see me again for 5 years.

Side note - been running straight D2 ULSD (since we're already there in Calif - of course D2 is $2.49 and premium unleaded is $2.35 - I'm in the process of moving and my biodiesel supply is interrupted until I get settled in the new place) my Provent drain tube is perfectly clear. There's a small amount of oil on the rim when I take the Provent lid off but it seems like ULSD (and I'm sure the Biodiesel is helping too) will make a big difference in filter life.

I sure hope so, I am not crazy about the idea of changing them every 12,000 miles.

I looked under the Liberty the other day and we would need a right angle drill to be able to tap the oil pan. I may do that later this spring, the cold & damp weather has settled in and is kicking my behind.

I haven't looked to see how hard it will be to get to the exhaust manifold for the EGT gage install, but it will wait also till spring.

I went to Fumoto web page and they do not make a drain valve for the 2.8. I wish they would as I've used them on every vechile I've owned for the last several years. I'm intrested in the air filter.

Ok I just heard from Greg about the Mann Provent for a GB of 20 units with the spare filter. The price would be $155 + S&H with I think is a pretty good price.

oldnavy,

So I just reread your post and realized that the price was for the provent and an EXTRA filter. All makes sense now and that price is very fair. Sorry for the disparaging remark. I should pay closer attention.

Also, I'll chime in for a drain plug. Keep us posted!

No problem Chris, just call Greg and sign on with C.C. and he will not charge your account till the minium number (15) have called him and he has shipped the parts. Speaking of calling with the CC I guess I better give him a ring.

Speaking of the drain plug I had to order an OEM plug and have sent to him to get it sized up for proper valve, that's what taking so long with the drain plug.

OldNavy, are the air filters in stock with Gregg? Is the filter a drop in or is this the whole intake system? Thanks for your efforts. I definatly in for drain valve and air filter.

No but it would not delay the shipping of filteers but maybe a couple of days. They are drop in's and the reason is these are for better filtering then OEM. Nothing will really give any real measurable hp (unless a couple 1/1000's of secound is important) increase to a turbo setup by opening the air intake with a filter like K&N, seen the dino test on diesels. What really helps a diesel is removing back preasure from the turbo by modifying the exhust.

I know on the newer generations of Cummins diesels in the Dodge trucks, going with an after market intake helped with spool up and lowering of EGTs. The question with the stock box on the CRD is what, if anything, is acting as a restriction? Replacing the stock air filter element with one that is more free flowing may not help a bit if the filter housing is the restriction. When I was at Autozone the other day, I noticed that the CRD is using the same filter element as the 3.7L V6. I would think that the 2.8L CRD engine running at high boost would require more air flow than the V6. It would be nice if aFe came out with a quality CAI for the CRD.

I have seen about 1/2 dozen turbo diesels tested on dino after mods we done and none showed any real usable hp increase of more then about 1/8t to 1/4 hp, only engines I ever saw with any increase in hp has been normal asperated engines. I watched a '05 Mustang GT pick up 4 hp for the CAI instal, and the one '05 Dodge Cummins had no measureable gain with a K&N CAI. The Mustang picked up about 20 hp with a set of Magnaflow mufflers, the Mustang comes from factory with mandrel bend headers. The Dodge picked up about 25% increase hp with a set of big pipes and Magnaflow muffler. The chip was also a waste on the Mustang with $400 for about 10hp, but not so on the Cummins.

What most people don't understand about a turbo is it will suck the air it needs no matter what, even if it has to suck your filter into the intake. It's just they way they work. The way you make any real horse power and torque with a diersel is to dump in more fuel and very the length of the duration of the fuel spray across the cylinder as the compression stroke comes up.

I just talked with Greg this morning and I think he said he might be ready to take the orders for those maybe next week after Christmas. He wants to get just one and send it to me to see if it fit's and if there is no fitting problems, he orders however many he needs for the group buy. This is also the thing with the group buy of the CCV, when he get's the 15 people to call him for the CCV is when he buys them from the mfg to send to us.

I have had a killer sinus infection for 3 days with no sign of letting up, so I could very well be wrong since I can hardly stand to wear my glasses or hear for the stopped up ears. I have had nothing but colds since my grandson has started daycare.
