He's right. The housing cracks where the shaft connects (or close to that area, where the housing is kinda teardrop shaped). Others have tried making a collar type thing around where the bearings are located.

From what I've gathered (and I was gathering, let me tell you), it seems that the failure occurs when the front wheels go from spinning to NOT spinning suddenly. Like if you're climbing up a muddy hill or something, and the fronts lose traction momentarily, the tires speed up, then they grip again. That breaking force that's initiated at the tires, as they try to stop the drivetrain from spinning, it fights against the engine as it tries to keep everything rotating. That front housing neck is the point where these forces collide and it lets go.

Keep that in mind next time you are trying that hill climb again and again. Just take that strap and live to wheel another day (or at least the rest of that one!).

I only have the engine skid actually on my jeep right now. The tranny skid is coming for christmas. I know they are two different things. :wink:
