i have absolutely no complaints with my ESP i have to say it does it's job very well. Especially while offroading. if i'm on a very slippery surface where all tires have no traction the esp will spin one then both... then one. then both... then one.. then both trying to get traction. in a way it mimics having lockers. i have open diffs but there are a lot of times when all 4 of my wheels are spinning at once when none have traction. This is in 4 low (when the esp is supposed to be completely off). in 4 lo it does not cut out the throttle at all.. just helps with traction. when it's "on" in 4hi or 2hi it will cut the throttle/apple brakes when it feels a wheel slip. The only down fall is that it's not predictable. you never know when all 4 wheels are spinning and that only happens once your stuck. lockers are predictable.. and that's why i want them.

NEWS FLASH- called offroadlockers (aussie) yesterday and they told me that in 4 weeks they will be test fitting the lockers for the 8.25 in all axle applications.

so it appears as though we're still a month and half away from them.

They said that quite a few times and delayed it... and delayed it... and delayed it. This thread was originally titled Aussie locker coming out in May, which was actually a push back from March or something to begin with. Came down to test fit time in early August and - no go - back to factory. I'll believe it when I see it.

Unless running a fully selectable locker liek the ARB, I wouldnt put one in with my ESP. A ratcheting locker will lock and unlock on its own. If its unlocked and esp kicks in, and then it locks, it COULD take out something bad.

With a selectable locker, when in engaged as said it wont have the use for esp so it wont kick on. With it off its jsut like it snot installed.

I'm going dual ARB's in my 07.

Um excuse me.... Anyone been to the Aussie site lately? Out of curiosity, I went back to page one of this thread to click on the aussie link...

The Aussie locker for the Liberty 8.25 ('02 - '04) is in stock and priced at $299.99

edit; I went back to the site again to see about ordering, and it doesn't appear you can add this item to the basket? Somethings not right there? Figures.

recieved an update from Aussie today:

We are just waiting to find out if the shipment from Australia will go
this Friday or next Friday. We will have to do a test install again
when we get the lockers in stock and then we will open the web site for
purchase. The test install in Australia went well.

sounds promising :)

i cant believe you posted that!!! i just got home from work and was going to do the same thing. I have a little more info. the guy i talked to at aussie said they sent over all the different types of axles with the last batch back to australia and all those test fits went great... so everything should go very smoothly. i also asked about the install and he said it's extremely easy.. an unexperienced mechanic should be able to do it in about 3-4 hours. and finally that it should not mess with ESP at all. He mentioned that they have a lot of lockers out there in ESP applications and have not heard anything back from those costumers. also assured me that it would DEFINITELY be this month. things are looking good :)

all i got from them was that they COULD be in this friday (tomorrow).. and if not this friday than next. i'm ecstatic! now i just need to figured out if i want to do gears... and if i can swing the extra cash for gears. my spare is currently in my shed... i know not much use in there but i have a air compressor, slim, fix-a-flat, and a tire repair kit in my jeep.. plus only drive around here and we own a towing/bodyshop business. when i go wheeling i strap it down in the cargo compartment.. makes for a better departure angle (and yes i have hit it before when it was on).. gotta put the seats down to get it in there though i use the extra studs to mount my CB ant. so it doesnt keep getting knocked off the roof by trees

I wasnt sure what exactly the difference is between the Aussie and Powertrax, here is what Bill Cole said:

Quote:
The Powertrax locker is basically a Lock Right locker with added parts.
The parts are a slip ring that disengages in a turn and according to
Powertrax this eliminates the click. When the ring fails you have a
basic Lock Right locker. We believe that fewer parts equals higher
reliability and our design has fewer parts than any other locker.

The 8.25 29 spline Chrysler locker is currently scheduled to ship to us
this coming Friday. We will get them late next week and schedule a test
install in the USA over the weekend. Assuming that install goes well,
we will open up the web site for orders the next week.

Thank you for your interest in the Aussie Locker.

so if its not out by the time I get the money for a locker Im just gonna get the Powertrax, and again they say another 2 week....minimum

There is no clicking in the turns of my Powertrax. None. There my be a click on the first turn out of my driveway, but that is about it. If I gun it another click if it is running open but there is no constant clicking at all. It is awesome. From their own admission, they said they are pretty much identical. Not worth the wait and bs they keep giving out, at least it wasn't for me. It is cheaper though.

Nice to see they are finally in.
Just a couple of notes on them.
They are easy to install (did one on my Grand Cherokee)
Grease is your friend
They ratchet on corners (mine never did quiet down)
and get ready for the loud bang once in a while. Fist time it will scare the heck out of you, but you get use to it.

I ordered mine Nov 1st, 299$ plus 22$ shipping to So Calif. and it arrived today. Looking it over, it has the same parts as the powertrax. I won't be installing it until later this week.

sweet! be sure to let us know how it works for ya! ya it is setup very similar to the powertrax but it has less parts and it also works the same way

Thanks to this discussion, I ordered one and installed it on Friday. It took a friend and I about 5 hours. It wasn't difficult, but by the time we set up shop and got down to business and put it all back together it took a little while. Easy to figure out, but we did have to remove RR tire and brake caliper to slide the axle out far enough. This gives enough room to not pull the LR off. I tested it today on a nice rutted out climb to the top of a ridge. It was awesome! No way I could have climbed it before. The diesel pulled oh so slow and steady over ruts and rocks and the locker allowed a rear tire to get airborne several times and never loose traction. The road manners are great so far and I can only notice a click occassionally because I am looking for it. I am driving with kid gloves for now and want to get the feel of it better, but can hardly tell that it is there. I was very shocked to find that my diff plug was a rubber insert. The cover is paper thin as well. A better cover comes next. I think that if I drive reasonably and don't goose it like a teenager every take-off or around sharp curves and don't use high rpm's to climb obstacles, then it will be a perfect locker for me. I guess we'll find out.
