I ordered my Dodge Cummins (in tank) lift pump, I can't wait to get it installed. I also picked up a Fuel Filter housing from a 06 Dodge as well. No more plastic filter housing for me.

Thanks to gmctd and eveyone else for there hard work and research.

This is funny... check out the folks over here http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/dev/showthread.php?t=204909&page=2 & here http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/dev/showthread.php?t=208226

They're putting the CRD fuel tank module in the Dodge pickups!!!

Evidenly, if you're putting an external pump on the truck, the units without the in-tank pump are helpful! 8)

Go figure.

I figured: as they were running out of fuel at 1/4 tank with all the different aftermarket modifications, I advised them of the module interchangeability, showed them with pics how their module solved our problem, described how our module would solve theirs, and it did - advised them how to modify our module for larger fuel lines - posted it on four different Dodge forums - offered to swap our modules for their modules, but never got any takers - go figger

Ok, I've read through all the threads, and man, awesome info and collaboration. But I have one question, is anyone installing the new cummins lift pump with the tab broken, dremeled ,filed off ? It looks like gmctd broke it off on his first set of pics and installed it straight up like old libby pump, but after page 18, there was no other mention that I could find

I'm just curious, no tab, doesnt seem like a big deal to me, I'm half smart, not as dumb as i look  I can install it straight without the tab.

Anyone have a thought?

When you get it off, down, and out, play it as it lays - float arm is exactly parallel with front and rear walls of fuel tank, facing driver's-side wall - or, exactly 90deg from left and right side walls - fuel outlets face rear when correctly installed

All that's left is for someone to pull the relay on it and go for a wide open test run.

Either that, or put a lip-lock on it and make like you're sipping a rootbeer float - you may be surprised at the ease of the draw..........................

Anyway, the point is to let the CP3 get you home if it fails, not win the race - it will draw ~26"HG vacuum, if pressed to the task

Done it. After it's fully primed by the pump, the head slowly looses its plunger firmness but is otherwise very similar in feel to pre-mod characteristics. It definitely didn't die due to a starvation condition and I drove probably 15 miles like that.

I'm considering an in-tank lift pump. I've read most, but not all of the 36 pages. As far as I can discover there are 3 choices for pump:

Dodge 3500 Cummins 5143160AA

AIRTEX E7181M

SPECTRA SP7181

I couldn't find a Carter.

Is this correct?

Any opinion as to quality or features of each?

when i got home at 9:15 tonight it was here waiting... at 11:30 i was pulling out
of the garage with a nice firm priming pump and the whirr of the fuel pump...

i switched the level arms... with both units sitting side by side the dodge arm was
resting on the floor where the CRD one was about .5 of an inch off the floor... cut
half the tab for the orientation as others have done... fuel gauge reads the same
as before...

i was going to empty the tank and put 10.25 gal in to see the accuracy of the gauge
but i was too high on fumes by that point...

i am going to miss having the 11mm wrench in the cup holder... but i am going to like
having my cup holder back...

thanks to all for the research

The intank mod is putting a Cummins pump in the CRD tank - Airtex is the vendor that makes Cummins pumps - don't remember Spectra
I ordered the pump from auto parts giant (cheaper)
http://catalog.autopartsgiant.com/item.wws?sku=E7181M&mfr=AIRTEX%20AUTOMOTIVE%20DIVISION&weight=5&cookieID=26U0U4VJL28E1967NB&clientid=autopartsgiant

and the harness from Mopar parts America

I saw the Spectra when I did a part search at Auto Parts Giant [click here]

Here's a side-by-side photo. I've requested a price quote on the Spectra.

I am pretty new here and just bought an 06 with 16K on it. I didnt want to do anything that would give the dealer any reasons to void my warrenty if I have to take it to them. So I added the NAPA facet pump in the engine bay and took out the stock filter head/filter and replaced it with a FM-100 and have about $100 the pump/filter. The truck doesnt shudder at 60, Its not faster, just hassle free now, I dont have to keep bleeding the filter head once a week and filters are $15 and are way better than the stockers and quicker to replace if need be. AND if I have a tranny issue or something else and have to go to the dealer it will take me 15 minutes to return the truck to stock. just my 2 cents 8)

Hi, Johnny (I assume that's the name). Your mod is similar to what some others have done. Many have opted for the RACOR filter head as well since it's the OEM on euro 2.5 KJs. The big advantage with the in-tank pump is that it's stealthy and very "factory". You can simply remove a fuse and there's no way to tell that it's there without dropping the fuel tank. Also, it uses all existing mopar parts (granted not in the way they were necessarily intended). I would venture to say that most places would balk more at a facet pump and aftermarket filter than with the cummins sending unit (that is IF they were going to balk at all). Tomato, tomahhhto, though. They probably work almost the same and I'll bet you saved a little money.

Regardless, it's good to hear you have a solution that works for you. That's what it's all about.

Dan

I asked Airtex why I couldn't find the E7181M in their catalog, I got this reply:

FROM: danny youngblood/fairfield/airtexproducts 09/18/2008 07:42 AM

Subject: E7181M

We have discontinued this part number.
