Threw P0093 fuel system leak detected - large leak driving home today.
Background: I did the CAT fuel filter/bleeder valve conversion Labor Day ’07, so I have roughly 12 mo. and about 12K on my fuel filter. After the install I bleed air twice within the first week and have had no problems since today. I did have an inkling the past couple days that something was up because on startup it would take a moment longer to crank and then would idle rough until I began to drive.

Last pm I filled tank (15.8 gallons). Today: Leaving work after driving a couple miles I pulled onto I-25 and got up to 60-65 but it didn’t want to boost when I wanted to merge ahead of another truck I went to WOT and it went into pseudo limp mode and RPMS dropped to zero and it stalled out. Hazards on and pulled to shoulder parked and restarted after a hard crank to get the motor to turn over drove another 100yds, died repeat 3x pulled into level lot popped hood and primer pump was SOFT pumped 20+ times until firm drove about 1/3 mi and stalled again pulled into Shell station where “Jagyar” wanted to charge me $1.30 for an EMPTY fountain cup!!! But got a small water cup free instead…

Bleed about 12oz of fuel until no bubbles and closed valve.***This is probably where I made a mistake because I didn’t prime as I was closing the valve. I double checked and didn’t see any leaks around the puck, the sensors going into the puck, or inlet/outlet hoses. I started it up again idle’d for a moment and rev’d to 1800 for about 30 sec and back to idle and shut off no codes (besides 0104 from ORM, and occasional P0004 Fuel Volume Regulator Control Circuit High which others have had from CAT). Drove >1/4 mi and died again so I gave up pulled in a lot and called for a tow home (which took 2 hrs btw, used Allstate not Mopar/Jeep despite being in the heart of the metro area [DTC]but that's another story). Read the codes and now had 0093.

So besides changing out for a new CAT filter, and re-priming the fuel system any ideas for something to look for?

Changed out the fuel filter today and re-primmed the fuel system took a bit to get going because parked in my driveway was a slight incline. Drove around about 10 mi. city/hwy and the tank ran fine, no codes. I suspect the filter was clogged, last 2 fill ups were @ the same Shell station so I'll stay away from there.

A (external) lift pump is something I've been thinking about as a project next Summer after I'm out of warranty. Just not looking forward to splicing a fuel line and electrical wiring but will be a nice upgrade.

Or you could do the cummins lift pump and not have to do that.

Somewhere here on the forum, someone (I think gmctd) posted some pictures of a combo lift pump and filter head from a dodge truck, which mounted right onto the firewall where the current filter is mounted.

I think GMCTD did use a fuel filter head from a dodge but it did not have a lift pump attached. He put the Dodge pump in the fuel tank.

After my fuel heater fried (caused the fuse to blow also) I replaced the factory fuel filter head with a racor and have not had any issues with air in the system and I don't have a lift pump. I am thinking about the lift pump from the stand point to reduce the lag before turbo spool up that some have reported with lift pump.
