How do you know what the threads are on the zerks to match a tap to it? I'm going to do this I can't stand the squeeking anymore, even with the radio blaring I can hear'em. But, I've never tapped a hole before (ba-dum-TING). Are all zerks made the same? What size tap do I get for this? How much smaller should the drill bit be than the tap? Thanks in advance for answers to any of my silly questions. :)

You can buy a tap for what ever thread size you need. The zerk it's self can be any size you like. I used a 1/4"

1/4 inch is that the ideal length to ensure it goes all the way through the metal bracket?

Good thinking...keep an eye on the rubber though because it may not be resistant to petroleum products so you might have to switch to a polyurethane bushing.

A Lithium based (soap) grease avoids the oil based grease issues. :)

That is AWSOME! I would love to do that, sadly I’m not sure I’m handy enough for something like that. Or am I!

Can you walk me through this? In terms of replacing the bushings when you put a new one on there down you have to slid it all the way down the sway bar from one of the ends or does it have a slit in on one side that let’s you pop them open and over the bar and then wrap around it again once it’s in place?

Mine were making noise when it was 40 degrees. Now that it’s gotten down to the teens it’s to the point of embarrassment when I’m driving around. It sounds like a 1980’s full sized rusted out pickup truck. Even the ones in the back sound like they are making noise.

I believe there is a "slit" in the bushing, and there is an orientation the slit is supposed to be installed in, but can't remember where it is.

Dealer asked $298 for new set of swaybar bushings and labor.
It sounded like wayyyy too expensive for pieces of plastic rings.

How much do these cost new, are there better quality I can get?
For now, I will just spray some lubricant on them, hopefully will be fine.

After wheeling my KJ for 5 years, I finally did this a couple weeks back. I should smack myself for not doing this earlier. So much quieter.

Is this something that I can do easily at my appartment. I do not have a garage to do anything to my KJ. Also how long did it take you from start to finish? Mine have been driving me nuts since I bought the jeep. They even replaced the bushings and they still do it. I would really love for someone to do a write-up on this so we know how to do it.

I bought some over the winter and havent installed yet so im not the authority but it looks like all there is are two bolts that hold the bar/bushing in place. The bushing is split half way through so you can just expand it over the sway bar and then re-capture it with the brkt.... Prob should only take 20 min.

Sound about right?

sounds about right if the bolts come out OK, I just spray mine with a silicone spray every oil change and they never make any noise

I bought mine from the vendor down in Southern Cal , Big Bear, CA called ? I cant remember but their number and website on here on the Forum somewhere.
I put them on in my garage and they come with a little packet of grease. Nice and quiet and I feel they smooth out the steering. Do it, cheap fix.

silicone spray seems like an easy alternative if it works like Tom says it does.

That is what I do and yes, it works perfectly.
