Vent shades...

Yea one of mine broke while i was wheeling... now i need some bright idea on how to get that impervious two way tape off my KJ... its pretty freaking strong, ecspecially after being on for almost 3yrs...

any ideas? i was thinkin razor blade, but thats scary haha...

goo gone (any hardware store) works on just about everything I've needed it for. Otherwise there is chemical called toluene, much like paint thinner that will eat just about anything. I would be a little leary of the auto paint tho. Just a little touch and I would test it first, maybe on the inside of a door frame. I use it to clean hypolon rubber rafts and it does wonders.

yes ive heard of both of those products, ill see if i can get it to work... im guessing its just going to be a nice fun day of tedious peeling and irritated fingers hahaha...

ill let you guys know when & how i get it off... ( need to do both of the rears so it doesn't look that stupid)

Again I stress a test spot for the toluene, and HD rubber gloves. about a thimble full of this stuff cleaned off a handfull of liquid nails (the tube popped in my hand.. :roll:

..long story) in a few seconds flat.

3M's pin strip remover wheel works the best and no chemicals,fits in a drill.

and when you are done get some in channel replacements so you won't have this problem again. They also make a more low profile. I went Weathertech but I am sure others work just as well.

I have the Weathertech Inchannel ones also........After you try them, you will NEVER use anything elce. When you get them off, get a set of the Weathertech ones.

at our body shop we use a product called "speedy 500" ... it works great to loosen doublesided tape on moldings... vent visors and so on. then when it's off we use a wheel like tjkj suggested to take the rest off the panel/door... but watch out those get hot and will burn through your clear coat/paint if you are not careful.

those weathertech pieces look very very nice!

yea i gotta get them things off... such a PITA to do, but whatever... deff gonna get weather tech in channels...

I like the in-channel IF they cover the whole window with the KJ having the small window in the rear part of the door not covered to me it looks like something is missing, only reason I went with the old style as it covers both,

Mine were really old and brittle. A hail storm last year put a hole through each of the rears. Then, I leaned against one while getting my skis and the shade shattered. The fronts are ok, but I had to take off the rears. I waited for a fairly warm day since it was winter, warmed them up a little with a hair dryer, and used a Scosche plastic trim tool to help get them off. Then some Goo Gone and some elbow grease. Rinsed the Jeep off, and finished with a little wax and quick detailer. I need to take off the fronts and go to the Weathertech's while it is still warm outside.

They allow you to crack your window in bad weather and keep rain/snow from coming inside the car while still letting air in.

it's for smokers, built in venting even in bad weather. :lol:

ONly place the wife will let me smoke a cigar is when I am alone in the KJ.

I like being able to park the car (especially in the summer) and leave the windows down about an inch or so and no one can tell they are open..... With the roof vent craked, it really keeps the interior much cooler. (though I still won't leave em down at all if it's gonna be out of my sight all day).

Vent shades...
