Blowin' a fuse

Anybody else blowing their power window fuse?

I just blew mine for the second time in 2 months. Just happens. Nothing special going on. Both times, I did not have anything additional running. One minute the windows worked (I parked it, raised the windows, locked it, and upon return, started KJ, tried to lower windows) and next, they were dead.

I am wondering how a battery at the end of its life will affect the system. Surges, spikes, whatever.

The better question might be - if a window regulator dies - will it cause enough of a power drain to kill the fuse??

(I don't think a dying battery will kill a fuse)

my guess is a rubbed wire thats shorting out. i know it might be a pain in the booty but check for and rubbing in the wire loom of the door panels. it might be rubbing on the skin of the door somewhere and when you close the door its causing it to short out when u return to turn the kj back on. just my guess

Good point.... Tokyojoe, didn't you get new speakers installed a few months back? Are you using the factory wires or were new ones ran? If there were new wires run through the boot using the wire hanger method, damage to existing wiring can be had. Also, check to see the screws to mount the speakers didn't pierce anything.

Make sure everything is clean and lubed in the track. If the motor is working harder to move the window, it's going to draw more current as well.

I installed new speakers about 5 months ago. Wire hanger not an issue since I always tape down the tip when pushing wires/cables. As slow as I took installing everything and ensuring everything was done carefully, I doubt it is a mounting screw.

I did have a loose connection to the starter and could be grounding it...when I was back in Ohio. I'll check that out and check on the power wire I installed for the CB and see if it is out and touching anything.

No change in the window's power. They still open and definitely close with authority.

I would try an isolate which window is causing the problem. I would disconnect each window elec plug install an new fuse and reconnect one window at a time and operate it up and down till the fuse blows again. I think one of your regulator motor is shorted internally when it gets hot.

That won't work because I can't keep doing that for two months continuously in hopes that it will blow again.

If that was the possibility, it should be blowing right away when I lower and/or raise all four windows at once which I am always doing and don't have issues with it.

This last blow had the windows only about an inch down, raised them to closed when I parked. Upon return, fuse blown.

Replaced fuse this morning and no issues (did the four window lower and raising).

If you are raising and lowering all the windows at once may be your problem. Maybe to much amps going thru the fuse with all 4 motors operating.
