New Tires (Interco)

Well against some folks advice, and with others I went for it and got new tires
in a 235/85 - 16. Interco Trxus

Thanks for everyone's advice.

Picked up the KJ yesterday afternoon so I have not put many miles on yet.

I get rubbing on the front when I turn pretty far. I'll get around to
addressing this but I can live with it until then. These tires are a huge
change from the stockers they replaced. I like...

Our dog, Marley, was so excited to see the new tires she insisted on posing with them!

looks good! i'm going to buy these for my next set of tires as well (only in 265/75/16's)... your frankenlift doesnt seem very high in the front?

'06 KJ, I agree, my Frankenlift is probably lower than some. Don't know why. In fact, the left side was about a half inch lower than the right and Hood helped me clevis it which still didn't even it up with the right side. My KJ is a CRD also, so I don't think I will have as much height as gassers.

I ran them in 285/75/16 on my Cherokee & I liked them. But I am picking up so 34x10.5 LTB's for it Wednesday.

An update, I am only getting slight rubbing at full lock (right) in the back of the right wheel well where the tire actually touches the metal of the inner wheel well. Otherwise, all rubbing is gone. I didn't have to cut the front wheel well skirts either. I discovered that there are tabs on each side of the lower front wheel well holding the skirts in. I took out the tabs, and pushed the plastic skirt in. The area that held the tab actually holds the skirt in and pulls it forward enough to remove most rubbing and but still allows the skirts to do their job. I then used a heat gun (didn't even have to pull the tires) and the handle of a screw driver and pushed back a couple of small spots. If I had different wheels or spacers I wouldn't have to worry about the extreme right turns but as long as I just don't turn the wheel that last half inch to the right, all is fine. I was surprised and happy to see how quick and easy it was to take care of the rubbing.

Thought some of you might be interested in hearing how easy it was for me to make these 235/85's work, especially since my Frankenlifted CRD is not nearly the highest in the group.

I also did some 'test' off roading and all went well. I say if you are wanting the exra height, don't be afraid! :wink:

You are close, Marley is actually an Australian Shephard. She is getting close to 7 years old and we have had here since she was just a handfull of pup. My wife worked at a vet clinic and a lady brought in a litter and wanted to have one (Marley) put down. She thought Marley was going to be blind and deaf due to the marking on her face. She is fine. Speaking of 'handfull' - she sure can be!!!

The white face indicates recessive genes - also a higher risk of skin cancer.
Australia shepards have genetic problems with eyesight and hearing.
Although they're beautiful & intelligent dogs.

Yep, ATXKJ said it better than I could. That would explain where the lady was coming from.
To date, all is well with Marley's eyes and ears.

KJ TIRE CONTENT:

Forgot to mention that I did have to cut about 5 inches off of each side of the air dam. That made
the biggest improvement, otherwise I was getting some crazy popping when I would back up and
turn the wheel any more than 6 inches!

Nope, no plans to cut any white plastic. I have the rubbing pretty much taken care of and all white plastic is as it was.
I'll post some pictures when I get a chance to take some.

Here are some updated pictures of the trimming and adjustments I made to end the rubbing.

Trimed 5 - 6 inches off each side of the air dam.

Here is a picture of where I pushed the shirt behind the tab (explained in post above). You can also see the
back side of where I cut the air dam.

Also, when I would turn at full lock, the inside of the back of the front tire would catch a bit of the plastic skit. Here
is a picture of what I trimmed to stop it.

Here is my clearance at full lock (rub marks are from before I made the adjustments to stop the rub).

So, I don't have much rubbing... Unless I do this! :lol:

I just wanted to check and see if you had any more updates after putting some miles on the tires? I have a CRD and would like to get the same setup you have. I previously had these tires in a 255/85/16 on a LJ I had and liked them alot. I'm also a fan of the tall skinny tires so these look like they would be about perfect for what I want.
