After a search I see a few have asked but not any real answers. I want to swap my 02 auto to a manual. Has anyone done this? I dont want to get a different Jeep. I have no problem bolting in a nv3550 but what electical changes are actually needed, a different computer :?: Can I realy get this done for less than $2000? Any help is much appreciated.

Chris

The Auto is a stronger transmission for towing. I'd take an auto any day over a manual. Why do you want to switch?

Well for one a manual is just more fun to drive. My past 3 vehicles have been sticks and I am pretty sick of driving the auto. I understand that i can only tow 3500 with the manual but I dont tow anything that heavy anyways. I dont have any problems with the tranny, its just a matter of what I like to drive. 8)

Good answer................................ I wish I could help you answer your question. But I'm sure someone (tjkj2002) might be able to chime in. Best of luck getting it done!

best would be just find a wrecked KJ with a manual and get everything from it, PITA to do , last one I did was a 68 El Camino and it was a bear to get everything I needed

Christopher, you may want to trade in your 2002 for a 2006, as it might be the easiest. I don’t think Jeep made the manual trany in 2007 but I could be wrong.

There is a Liberty in the Dallas craigslist with a manual tranny for $650. But it might cost a little more to get it up there to Michigan. I posted a link to it in the CL eBy finds section a week or so ago.

Like I said I am keeping this jeep. I figured everyone would just say buy one with a manual. If I can do this for under 2g than it would be a lot cheaper than buying a 06 if you know what I mean.

If yours is stock, it would be 10x easier to just trade it straight across for another KJ with a stick. A lot may go for that, since an auto trans will be easier to move.

could always buy and switch your things over, you can buy manual ones way cheaper than autos, plus its going to be a PITA to switch everything over

Here is the thread. The CL posting is still up, so I'd assume it is still available.
