Man there seems to be the same guy here in almost who has a major attatude. I can bet I wheel harder than you ever will. Skid row makes great stuff, I even have there stuff. But like most venders they feel that the product they make is good enough for the KJ's. Most feel that you will never wheel it hard enough to bend it.

RockJeep I can't tell if you have a problem with one of our members or if you have a problem with vendors' attitudes toward the KJ. Please elaborate. In general Skidrow does make good products, but their first attempt at at KJ tranny skid wasn't so great. Even light wheeling and those things bent like foil. It's not an attitude thing...that's just the facts.

TallNorton - add rock rails to your list and that would cover all of the major areas needing attention. Currently, the "best" tranny skid available is the Super Skid from All J Products. I don't know of anyone running the new version of the Skidrow, but if you purchase it please provide pictures and feedback here. I would love to get a look at it.

Eric at skid row is a good friend of mine. I run there products. It was a post that seems to be fluid through out several topics. That persn seems to have a major attatude.

I have the original SkidRow plate and I am trying some of my own reinforcements with it. I have had great support from SkidRow when I've had questions in the past, both with email and over the phones. I give them a thumbs up.

$269.00?!

Dude... I bought the Mopar tranny skid for my new CRD for $28.00! And it's double-layer steel! I wheeled it a couple weeks ago and bottomed out on my belly several times (imagine that) and my Mopar skid plate didn't bend. Even if it did...how many Mopar plates can you trash for the price of one of these aftermarket plates? Like, a dozen? There is no possible way I'd spend $269 for a skid plate unless I was doing the Rubicon every single day. Just my $0.02.

I really like Eric and the support he provides. I have sent him emails on a few occasions and he is always friendly and very thorough with his responses. I do hope this new version of the tranny skid pans out.

I'm getting one. Spoke w/Eric already. As soon as I have a chance to pull it off and send it to him I'll have my new one.

I'll give you all detailed feedback then. Hopefully over the next few weeks.

I got some more followup from Eric at SkidRow. If there is interest in making the skid from 1/4 material he is willing to listen...

Quote:
The new KJ skid plate is reinforced differently from the earlier design. This was required by the various exhaust systems that Jeep has used. Is it stronger? Yes. However, please bear in mind that a skid plate is designed to provide protection and is not designed to never bend. If the skid plate were strong enough to never bend, those loads would be transmitted to other areas such as the chassis crossmembers and unibody. This could cause even more expensive damage. As I mentioned earlier, we have to consider a number of factors when designing a new product including weight, price, strength, fit across model years, and manufacturing cost. And while some of the forum members certainly contacted us with their concerns, I'm sure you can understand that theirs wasn't the only input. That having been said, if there was interest among your members, we would be willing to look at making our current design from 1/4" thick material rather than 3/16". They need to bear in mind that the skid plate would be heavier and would cost more.

Do you have the part number? And would that fit my 02 sport? I dont really see any Big rocks around here just fallen tree limbs, gravel, and bottoming out at the break over angle.
