I swear I also saw a thread/post about someone cutting a slot in the grill above his headlights and making a metal unit to divert the air to his OEM air box. I think it was a White KJ.

Ive also been worried about that. I asked if that may be a problem with that setup but everyone though it wouldnt. Going to give it a try and see how it goes.

Tommudd said he has a similar setup and hes never had a problem. Did that much rain really get into the air box and couldnt drain out quick enough?

Most people who were reporting problems with the front grill air inlet were also running a paper air filter or other poor quality filter. Poor quality air filters eventually weaken after absorbing moisture. The Amsoil filter however, is made from a material that does not absorb water nor does it allow water to pass through the filter. As a matter of fact, Amsoil air filters are designed to be open filters and take the beating from the outside elements. So as long as you’re running Amsoil, you have nothing to worry about……….well, unless if you are planning to forge water up to the factory air box. If that’s the case, then you need to go with the snorkel. :D :D

just a question! Why would you want to lower your air intake?

I planed to take a couple of hours to do it, it ended up taking all day. You have to cut a 3" hole in the fender plus some pilot holes for mounting. Then you have to cut kidney-shaped hole in the two layers of steel underneath the fender. The one under the hood is more difficult if your kit is missing the template (like mine) and then you have to cut into your airbox. You have to remove the factory intake and use the included hardware to plug the hole....... if the hardware included matches you hole in any way..... mine didn't so I fabbed a plug from star board.

I am glad I did it but plan on taking all day, pay the $75 for the plug since the outer template is not accurate and get yourself an airsaw with a couple of blades.

Yea,this isn't your basic bolt-on job.I had to modify all 3 holes. Can't imagine attempting it without those templates"wich were all a little off".And to plug the hole I used some plumbing parts from Home Depot.

The white fitting fit the hole perfect. On the outside I used a rubber plumbing cap with the supplied strap. On the inside, the fitting was threaded wich houses the taps for the moisture sensor mounted at the bottom of the air box, capped with a PVC threaded plug.I used a bandsaw to cut the fitting to shorten it a bit to fit the rubber cap flush with the outside of the airbox.

Finished product
