So my last attempt to work under my jeep, and actually my first attempt, was a failure for one main reason... I couldn't get it high enough to work under it. I'm curious what you guys use for a lift/stand setup, I'm sure some of you have access to big fancy vehicle lifts, but for a guy like me I just need a way to get it high enough up to work comfortably... And what do you all think is a good height anyways, or does that depend on the size of my gut :)

I use a 6-ton bottle jack and a 4"x4" block to lift; 6-ton jackstands to hold it up. But, I can comfortably crawl under mine without lifting it at all so when I do lift it, I get it just high enough to get the tires to clear the ground.

I have a 4 ton Craftsman floor jack that lifts to 20". Works well enough for me, and soon to get a high lift...

21" high floor jack and 4 jack stands will lift all four corners.

A hi-lift matched with some skinks/boulder bars and jack stands is one option. Another, a 20"+ floor jack and jack stands.

Personally I don’t like to extent the jack stands all the way; so I usually place the jack stands on some 4x4’s and I use a 2.5 ton jack with a 24” lift capacity.

I have plenty of room to work under my KJ without jacking it up at all,and I'm by no means a small person(5'8" and 200lbs).I know I'll be b!tching and moaning when my SFA is done since I'll have to reach up alot farther then what I'm used to.

Completely useless if you want to do suspension/brake work or rotate your tires.

Just becareful in your garage that you don't go too high. I have come close in my garage with the roof rack on and the amount of lift and tire size I have.

Yeah, Ive never had problems working under my jeep with it just sitting on the ground.

If Im working on brakes or changing out the lift etc, Ill use jack stands.

Be careful with ramps on concrete floors. I had one shoot out when driving up on it and it took out the drain for the sink in the garage.

To make it safer and easier to drive up onto ramps, tie a few feet of rope onto the downhill end of each ramp and trail them straight back. Then, as you drive forward your front tires will be on top of the ropes and hold the ramps in place. By the time the weight of the tires is off the ropes you'll have enough weight already on the ramps to keep them from skidding forward.

ramps for oil changes. Jacks stands are on the wish list to make rotating tires quicker.

ramps for oil changes?????
just lift it and then no need for ramps, much easier
Always have to have at least two jack stands ( get the tallest and highest rated ones you can find ) and a 2 1/2 ton jack ( at least) ready for anything then

DO NOT GO CHEAP ON JACK STANDS. Your putting your trust/life into them.

agreed but until I lift that is where I am at, plus I change the oil in my wifes 02 and daughter 03 and they will never be lifted unless I end up taking ownership someday.
Also, going to need at least 2 jack stands so I can take the tires off and pound the pinch welds someday. 8)
