About once a year, I receive a big package in the mail from AAA wanting me to become a member. I’ve never had AAA, but I’ve heard some people say that AAA is worth the membership due to discounts, etc. For those of you who are AAA members, what do you think?

I had AAA and it was nice to have. I used it once when my jeep broke down and it was nice. I was 800 miles from home and had no idea who I should call. I called AAA they sent a tow truck out to me and had it towed to a shop for free no cash outta my pocket. I still had to pay for repairs but at least the tow bill was covered. I am not sure exactly how much it costs but just having it that one time was enough for me to resubscribe.

Huh? I thought all they did was rehab? Do you still need a sponsor to join?

Used to be a great deal, I had it for years
for the following reasons
Maps when traveling...now you can go online and print off your own
Cheaper hotels....again now you can go online and get the same price or better
Breakdown when traveling/ towing ...now most insurance companies offer the same thing at competetive rates

I still look at getting it again someday but then with everything else I have that offers discounts like AAA does I end up tossing the envelopes they send. I mean ..heck I am old enough for AARP  who needs AAA

AAA is not for old people you are thinking AARP which you can now get at 50 now! GREAT DISCOUNTS so don't knock it

AAA is the American Automobile Association

 oh. I'm not old, or a alcoholic. never mind.

EDIT: oh wait... so lemme see...

AA = Hello, my name is "______", and I'm an alcoholic.

AAA = Hello, my name is "______", and I'm in need of a tow.

AARP = Hello, my name is "_____", and I'm looking for a deal on the Clapper.

that about right?

hopefully you never need all three at the same time,

AAA Plus is 80 bucks for year the discounts aren't as great as they used to be but it is mighty handy for the tow service, I've got AAA Plus, I get 2 free tows a year up to 100 miles each time for free. The best part is they cover you, not the vehicle so if your buddy breaks down you call AAA tell them the info and you were driving your friends truck/car, then go save your friend from the side of the road and wait for the tow truck. when he shows up tell him the same, I have helped to many friends and family with that.

if you ever go on a road trip, go to an office, they will print out a map and highlight all the construction zones and reported speed traps.

You need to check your area's website for info, as each region is different.

For example...I get 7% parts discount at NAPA.

Also, loan interest rates are usually very good.

I have been a AAA plus member since 1990, I need to check my paperwork but I think I still get 6 100 mile tows or locksmith unlocks a year, or tire changes gas cans etc. Just one tow or locksmith call will make up the price. What I like best that many other companies don't do, is they tow it where you tell them, not the nearest repair shop. You just call them and tell them where to where, no questions. That way you can bypass a mech you don't know and take it to one you do, or your own driveway.

I have AAA Plus RV. I blew a head gasket on my 28 ft. Class C motorhome down on I-70 just west of Dayton, Ohio. Called AAA , They towed my camper all the way back to Toledo, 165 miles. Glad I had it. Another time I blew the inside tire on my duals on the back. They towed me about 40 miles to a shop to get it changed out. It has been invaluable to me!
