Finally got some of my pics added. Pretty much a stock Renny. I added the Renegade decal(s), tinted the windows, added ventvisors and sunroof visor. Can't wait to put some Revo's on it. I really want a 2.5 Rusty's lift but must wait until the warranty expires. I already have 25K miles on it.

looks nice bro...like the black. About the lift, I don't you have to wait until the warranty expires....don't listen to your dealership....call DC....your dealership will tell you "no" because they are full of it.

The only obstacle you will face warranty wise is that DC will not warranty repair the parts you put in or modified....the rest of your vehicle will still be covered, motor, drivetrain, interior stuff, electronics and so on....if your worried that your suspension will fail and not be able to get it warranty repaired, don't worry...that won't fail until the warranty is expired anyway  Seriously though, I say if you want a lift just go and get it....I'm still saving up for mine.....warranty issues shouldn't be a problem.

What type of lift are you getting? How much is it going to set you back?

Yeah, dealers are terrible to deal w/. All types of dealers... I just bought a Suzuki Vinson 500 (ATV) and when I went to a dealer to get oil filter and oil for my first oil change he asked why I didn't buy mine from them. I told him that they were $600 higher than where I got it from. He asked if I bought it out of state and I told him I did and he proceeded to tell me that he was going to turn me into the North Carolina Tax Dept. because I didn't pay state taxes on it. (I did pay the taxes but you do that on your own). I asked him how would they know that I didn't pay taxes on it since you don't have to register ATV's in NC and he said because I'm going to tell them. I said well i guess I won't be buying anything from you. The idiot didn't have my name so he proceeded to walk out and write down my license plate number. Woo... you're scaring me...

Word of mouth does get around but these dealers think they can get away w/ anything.

Why do dealers care if DC (or any manufacturer) will pay for the warranty repairs? I've never understood that.

I'll be getting a Rustys or Daystar lift both are about 200 bucks (spacer kits, keeps factory suspension in place) and some rear shocks, about another 60 bucks....I'll hopefully be putting it together myself....if not I'll be looking at about 70 bucks an hour for about three hours at a shop.

That guy at the ATV dealer should mind his own business about the taxes...what does he care, what satisfaction or reward is he expecting to get by writing down your plate number and making some phone call, if he wants to be a cop he should be applying for a cop job, not working out of some ATV shop.

Heres the thing with dealerships, they act like they don't care if you don't buy from them, but as soon as you do come on board with them with a product they suddenly get very scared if you take your business elsewhere. The whole thing is ridiculous. Heres my opinion, just do what you want with your stuff......these dealers are nothing but a bunch of guys trying turn a quick buck....my opinion is of course mine, and I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to you or your KJ, so to be sure I would call DC, because it may be different in the US than it is here...if anything I would assume it to be easier for you.

The dealers are annyoing, the product is cool, and the people of DC are a good bunch to, the dealers seem to think they are the end of the line when it comes to your vehicle...they're not.

Anyway, I've been ranting alot about dealers lately on here, so I'm gonna officialy cool it. Keep us posted on your KJ developments and any info you get out of DC if you call.

my dealer told me if anything major breaks just that part wouldn't be coverd (rear end ,tranny,t/case) but thats also if jeep got involved & sent down a rep BUT they would have to prove that the lift or larger tires caused the break,to save headache I'm waiting  but they CANNOT VOID your whole warrenty

You need to find a good Jeep dealership. The lift won't void your whole warranty and it won't void anything unless the lift was the actual cause of the break.

There shouldn't be issues with a lift 2.5" or less. Dealers around here accept the lifts. This is JEEP country and that means lift it and off-road it.

The dealers in the big cities and on the east coast seem to have their brains drained of knowledge regarding Jeeps.

Ok a buddy of mine just graduated from UTI and works at Toyota, I also have it on good account from two instructors at my tech school (century college, auto repair) that worked at Stillwater Motors (Chevy, Buick, Jeep dealership). They reason dealers dont want to cover it under warranty is because they make less money off of the repair. Since most dealer work is warranty work these days, they try to get as many people to pay out of pocket as possible. My buddy says even mechanics hate warranty work because they only get paid for the repair, not the diagnostic (where the dealer and the mechanic make their money). If you get a check engine light-it's no problem, just hook up a scanner. If not, then the mechanic has to spend time tracking down the problem and the dealer isn't being paid. The theory is, once you find the problem, a similar problem on the same vehicle is the same problem and doesn't require diagnostics.

As for warranty coverage, the law is on our side. The Moss-Magnusson (sp?) act provides that a manufacturer can only void a warranty if an aftermarket part can be PROVEN to have caused the problem. Which means if you put a Fram air filter in your Jeep, the manufacture must prove that that filter caused dust and dirt to ruin your throttle body (just a hypothetical situation here folks) whereas a Mopar original wouldn't have damaged anything. When mechanics of any kind see things like skid plates, lift kits, big tires, mud all over everything, and enough lights for a small town-they suspect that you have abused the vehicle. Jeep expects you will play with your four wheel drive here and there. But they do not and should not expect people to go full throttle off road. Warranties do not cover abuse or negligence, only manufacturer's defects. If you do get denied warranty coverage because of an aftermaket part, contact SEMA. Google them. They have lawyers that specialize in warranties and help people like you and me all the time with great things like less stringent lift kit laws, land closures, and warranties.

Sorry for the long post, Happy Trails!!!

Don't worry about it being a long post at all....excellent info....I'm trying to find any kind of Canadian representation concerning warranties....but the principal is still the same....regardless of mud and stuff, they have to PROVE outright that the modification caused a failure or that direct abuse was presented to the failed equipment (a mechanics word is not gospel)....so I'm sure if I do get failure after a modification that I'll be able to locate somebody who could provide proof (or lack of)from an unbiased position.

Good post
