Cold fuel pumped into the engine.
Too bad I don't get hardly any more smoke.
Not sure what happened, but it sure runs good, go figure.

That reminds me of when I was in high school. Parents of a friend of mine bought a Cutless Supreme diesel - you know, the ones that were recalled under the lemon law. That sucker put out a cloud that made Batman jealous! As one might expect of high schoolers, we got a kick out of slowing down until people started tailgating us. We would then stomp on it. It produced so much smoke you could barely see the car behind us. They inevitably backed waaaay off.

Ha, ha. That reminds me of an old VW Rabbit I owned. It had so much blowby that oil would pool in the intake manifold and if I gave it a good jerk from stopped at a traffic light, I could make the oil spill over the lip of the bowel formed in the bottom of the intake. Once it sucked that oil down it's throat....Watch out! Cool stuff for a teen to do to impress friends, girls and ticket happy cops. The time for engine replacement came when it started doing it hills. That was probably the only Rabbit to ever see the passing lane on a hill.

I have experimented with Lucas injector cleaner, and Powerservice(white container in winter, silver in summer),and I have found that this combo reduces smoke by 50% in My CRD.I have yet to try the powerservice"clean diesel" in my CRD,but in my 7.3 Excursion it drastically has lessoned smoke at acceleration...good luck...H

Smoke is usually caused by over-fueling by the engine mgt system. Just clean your Boost Control Sensor on a regular service basis (every 5000miles) and there will be no smoke, and fuel economy will improve as well. I have tracked my fuel economy since the day I picked up my CRD and I can tell by the drop in economy when my boost control sensor needs cleaning. It's not hard to do, there are a number of posts on the process. I clean mine every time I change the oil now.

If you don't like the black smoke, sell the diesel and get a gas engine vehicle.

Glenn, is that the same as the boost pressure sensor that gets gummed up if you don't redirect your CCV -> CAC blowby (top of the engine near the firewall just to the side of the fuel head (on the LHD)? Just want to make sure there's not a sensor I'm missing in my once-per-oil change cleaning.
