I saw this on jeep forum, so I figured I would ask you guys and see who you think would win.

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=672310

I think it would be a real close match, and it would depend on the Jeeps of course, but in general.

Engine Specs:

XJ-4.0L HO
190 hp 225 ft lb @ 3000RPM

KJ-3.7L
210 hp 225 ft lb @ 4000RPM

Depends on a lot of things, but I think the XJ has more going for it. Either way the XJ has a better 1st and reverse gear than the KJ. Final drive gear will mater but assuming they both have 3.73's the XJ gets it. The 4.0 has more torque off idle than the KJ also. The only bene the KJ has is it's weight.

The KJ would win with no problem given it has a ton more weight and traction.......of course assuming the tires are about the same for both.

ya but the XJ will have more ft lb at a lower RPM, I think it would be a very close match

I assumed once someone said go both rigs would be floored and floating on the rev limiter so that makes no difference.

The tq rating difference between the two engines is about 10# at 1200 RPM's from what I have been able to find. That huge torque down low BS for the I6 is pretty much just that. No one has been able to disprove the findings...

I am not sure how anyone is assuming anything about gearing as trannies are not posted that I can see? Is someone ASSuming that both are auto's or something?

If I was registered on that forum, I'd make an invitation or two to " hardcore" curt41.

If it is a '02 KJ against a XJ the KJ would probally have the edge with the 45RFE trans(lower gears and more weight). Now a KJ with the 42RLE it would be about equal due to the higher ratio's in the 42RLE vs the 45RFE.

Now if it was my KJ,there'd be no comparison, granted I would need to install a front again  .

Torque doesn't mean doo doo unless you can lay the rubber to the road

doesnt matter you could assume they are both auto or both manual, just so that they are more equally matched Jeeps.

Ya curt41 made me chuckle a little too, Id love to see him lose to a KJ 8)

Im surprised anyone thinks an xj would ever beat a kj in a tug of war. The kj weighs a good 500-600 lbs more than an xj. Put it in 4low and that low end torque of the 4.0 will mean nothing.

If you had both in 2wd and layed them to the floor then the xj MAY win since it has a better torque and lower gearing. The torque converter in my 42rle hardly lets the engine get over 2k rpms if you try to brake torque it.

Lets not turn this into a youtube redneck pull out video comment page!

ThunderbirdJunkie's KJ weighs about 1,000lb more than his XJ weighed.

And has more spunk with big tires than the XJ did on stock size tires.

And it didn't earn the nickname Exxon Valdez...

And its styling doesn't make a 1st generation Isuzu Trooper look curvy...

Would you like me to go on?

ThunderbirdJunkie would have feared towing the KJ with the XJ, but he towed the XJ with the KJ with reckless abandon.

That being said, a torrential downpour, MT/R's, bald tires on said XJ, and a u-haul tow dolly on an exit ramp at about 40 mph makes for an interesting ride
