AZ L.O.S.T. has scheduled a club run for 2/21/2009. Now is the time to make your suggestions as to what trail you'd like to run.

Let's see your see suggestions and then we'll firm up the details in another thread.

Who is interested and what trail would you like to have considered?

loganbrumm - Sedona
006KJSPORT4x4 - Kofa Mountains (two day trip)
2mopar_diesels - Bloody Basin/Camp Creek Roads
AZKJ - Montana Mountain/Fortuna Peak
Renstock - Harquahala Peak

Kofa Mountains anyone??? Before it gets too hot maybe we could get a run organized down this way? Alos before gas prices start to creep up any higher than they are currently...I know I could get a 2-day trip organized if anyone was interested?? Could be done the third weekend of Feb perhaps...I'll start a thread to see who might be interested???

Are you planning on making the trip out from MS to attend? If you are planning to attend, pick one trail you'd like us to consider and we'll add it to the list to be considered.

Oh, and thanks for listing all of those trails... most of us are very familiar with all of them and some others that aren't in the books.

I'll add your suggestion to the list and see what everyone says about it.

Off hand, I'd say the monthly AZ L.O.S.T. runs should just be a one day affair in order to get max participation. If you want to do a special or multi day run, i think that ought to be posted separately.

Not specifically, but yeh! I'll be out there visiting family next month. I'm 97badXJ on AZVJC. I know most of the area out there also. Lived half my life in AZ. For an all day adventure, the route I suggest is this:

Meet at Price rd, turnoff and run Box Canyon, side trip to Martinez Cabin or continue on if the 2roads connect without crossing the Gila to Coke Ovens trail and out Battle Ax/Walnut. If not, after side trip, continue up Mineral Mt. to Ajax Mine Rd./Telegraph Canyon into Superior that way, for those more darring, they could stay in the wash while the other more stock KJ's can tag along the main access rd. Either route, we'd end up at Superior for supper, or whatever.

I'll toss out the Senator Highway (Massey & Wilson #C-24).

Beth and I have run this trail many times over the years. It's rated easy and scenic.

We could meet at the Rock Springs Cafe (good food) in Black Canyon City for breakfast, then run the main road from Bumble Bee to Crown King, passing through Cleator. From Crown King it's 36 miles to Prescott through the mountains. Before heading home, Beth and I know a good Italian place where we could stop for dinner.

It makes for a long day, but a fun one.

Here is a LINK about the Senator Highway.

Crown King and the Senator Hy. sounds good or a few Sedona Trails are always nice. Either one works for us.

Not yet... still waiting on more suggestions where people want to go.

Are you going to attend this run?

It really depends on the run that's chosen. I really want and hope to though.

Well, rather than listing just about every trail in the FJ area like you did above, how about tossing just one out for consideration that you are interested in?

I thought I did, you have to drive one to get through to the other on my previous post about Box Canyon, Coke Ovens, Battle Axe......etc. But that might be a bit rough for some. So I would like to offer my official suggestion as this: "Bloody Basin Loop" consisting of Cave Creek Rd past Seven Springs, then out Bloody Basin through the Agua Fria Nat. Monument ending at Cordes Jct.

Added Bloody Basin to the list.

FYI... most of the FJ trails are doable for a KJ, but it would make for a very long day to run all the ones you listed. Also, the Coke Ovens have been closed down by the owner of the property.

Yeh, thats why I changed things. To make it more stock friendly, and easy going so we won't be rushed and be able to include more people & rigs.

I added another trail to the list of choices for the Feb Club run... Montana Mountain (Wells #48) and Fortuna Peak.

This trail is a variation of the Montana Mountain trail. We still start the run near Queen Valley and go up Montana Mountain, but as we come down off the switchbacks and before we get to the old stone cabin, we make a left going up Fortuna Peak. We'll bypass the rock garden on the Montana Mountain trail.

Fortuna Peak trail is a little steep with some loose rocks and some tight brush in a few spots. Near the end of the trail, we'll pass by a mine that looks like an atomic bomb went off. Everything in the surrounding area is coated with a gray/white ash. The trail exits at US 60 above Superior, across from the turn off for the Oak Flat Campground.

This is an interesting variation of the way most people exit Montana Mountain. Here is a map of the two trails... the west side of Montana Mountain in red and Fortuna Peak in black...

Image

So come on gang... toss out something you'd like to run and let's pick a trail so we can firm this run up.

AJ

Here are two more suggestions...

- Harquahala Peak (Wells #40)... suggested by Renstock. Harquahala Peak is out Wickenburg way. This is s fun run up the 5,681 foot peak where the Smithsonian Institute maintained an observatory from 1920 to 1925.

- Bulldog Canyon (Wells #46)... I ran this trail a few weeks ago with another club. It's a series of short rocky trails that crisscross each other. There's some sand and steep climbs. The trail is located in the Goldfield Mountains just north of Apache Junction, south of Hwy 87 and east of Usery Pass Rd. This is highly sensitive area that is subject to closure if people keep trashing the area. A "free" permit (obtained at the Mesa Ranger District office) is required to use the area.

AZKJ, with so many options now, I think a poll is in order.
