I love these Goodyear Wrangler ST's

Well now I have your attention. Let me tell you about the fun I had yesterday in the Snow. We had about 6 inches of wet snow yesterday in MN and I went snowmowheeling in the CRD. In 2WD this thing drove like my 1974 Monte Carlo with Bald tires that I had in school. in 4wd it was extremley fun in the unplowed mall parking lot. I really loved the 4 wheel slides in the parking lot, although my wife didn't appreciate it as much as I did, neither did the guy in the other lane coming twards me on a county road when it went into a 4 wheel slide when I was actually trying to drive straight. The Freeway on the other hand was really SCARY, I made the mistake of taking it out of Full time 4WD and putting it into 2WD for the highway since the freeway was clean, but getting off on the off ramp almost sent me into the ditch. We ll I made it home safely and have been searching the internet for new tires, I love the snow but I want controlled fun, these tires are crap.

Well now for a question, I have not seen anyone with Dunlop tires on this site. After 9/11 I was feeling patriotic and decided that I should buy american tires to replace the tires on my last rig. I did a little research and found out that BFG is owned by Michelin, and since the French would not support our troops in the Gulf I will not be sending them any of my money, so no Michelins and No BFG's. I was also really dissapointed with my Firestone tires on my last rig so I ruled them out, but I now understand that all manufacturers now put crap tires on their vehicles from the factory unless you are buying a premium brand. I found out that Dunlop is now owned by Goodyear and settled on the Dunlop Radial Rover AT. I do mostly county road driving, Snow, Ice, Gravel, Paved. I liked the Dunlops and bought a set for my Wifes Rig to replace her bridgestones. Inboth cases these tires were a huge improvement over the stoock tires. We have been happy with them but I suspect because of their price there are much better tires out there for my driving needs.

I wonder also if they were any good.You can get them at sam's in the high $80 to low $90 range.If they are any good that alot of tire for the money.

Obviously, that Triple Tred rules in traction on-road but don't waste it off-road (very expensive tire!!!)
ST SUCKS all-around - except for a quieter ride
MTR is best off-road and better than the SR/A's in traction on-road
RT/S just sucks
HT is a lousy tire

If you plan to go with Goodyear, you choose the tire to fit your needs

Just today I had the same issues with the Wrangler STs on my Renny....cruising down a country road with about 6 inches of fresh powder on it...in 4WD going straight as an arrow, crested over a hill and it was slip and slide time...got it under control because i wasn't going that fast, in fact I think I was going pretty slow. We eventually came to a stop just to look into this pine forest. When we decided to get moving all four wheels just spun....no movement forward....until the ESP kicked in THEN off we went....but as far as I'm concerned the ESP shouldn't have even had to engage when the vehcile was in 4WD on dry untouched powder.....needless to say a little more money is going away than usual for some new tires. :wink:

I had to take my wife's Rendesvous to pick some things up today since it has more room in the back. She has the Dunlops, the traction was noticibly better than the ST's. The Rendesvous is an all wheel drive with the front wheels getting most of the power unless there is slippage. The traction in the deep snow was better, as well as the hard packed snow. The only thing that was not that great was in the deep slush they hydroplaned a little, but this would be difficult for any tire short of a MT. For the money they performed well. I was considering the Wrangler SilentArmour, But I do not know If they are worth the money. One thing that I know for sure is that I am not going to wait until the stock tires wear out. I have had this habit of driving the stocks until they wear out and then putting on better tires and realizing that I should have gotten rid of the stocks as soon as I brought the truck home. The worst part is I usually trade the trucks in with the good tires only having a year of wear on them so someone alse gets to enjoy them. I am going to replace the stocks with something better, run them until its time to trade it in and then out the st's back on it and tell the dealer they are new tires, because they will be just like new.

Taz. How about Cooper tires? I think the headquarters are in Ohio. I have the Cooper STT and they are great, with a very agressive tread pattern and armor tek3. http://www.coopertires.com/us/en/default_US.asp

Thats a Good Looking tire. I think that I need a tread more like the ST or ST-C. Most of the dealers around here carry the Mastercraft Brand, Made by Cooper, My Brother in Law bought them and really liked them, a lot of tire for the Money. I see from the web site that some Car-X stores have them. I will check at my local Car-X. I like buying from the local guys anyways rather than the big box stores, that way when you need something fixed yo have someone that you can go to. The local Car-X does all my exhausts, they have a guy that can weld like no one I have ever seen. He routes pipes perfectly puts on dual exhaust that is straight, true, level and sturdy. I need to go visit him about replacing the muffler on the CRD with something that breaths better, so I will ask about the cooper tire.

I have looked at the Revo's, A friend of mine has them on a Silverado HD with them on, He lives in rural WI, says the tires are great. I like the looks of them and the tread looks like it would be good for the driving that I do, What do they cost approx?

The Wrangler Silent Armor is one of the tires that I am considering, they are kind of spendy but they look great and I am kind of a technology junky so a tire with Kevlar in it was made for me.

Yeah, yeah...I know, Sarcasm and all that!!

The STs DO kinda blow. I was really happy when I had to replace mine. I went with the Dunlops A/Ts and I'm totally happy. I put on 245 70s and I don't have any rubbing to date. I wiuld have gotten the 75s but these were "in stock" and I got a great deal on them. I've had them about 6 weeks now and I just look for obstacles and stuff to play in!!! And my KJ is a 2WD too....What a blast!

I wanted to get the Silent Armor's when they were about for about 3 months, unfortunatley there werent too many reviews out yet and nothing on snow use which was what I was looking for. I tried to wait as long as I could but wound up giving in and buying Cooper ATR's which I am happy with (price difference was huge).

Would also consider ST's or MS next time around, I think the STT's would be too much for my use.

if you want a good American tire than go with the Coopers. They make excellent tires and then you can have something different on your KJ than most of the guys here have (Revos or BFG AT).

Ok so I have been looking for tires for a while now, I was at Fleet Farm today and they now cary Dean tires. Dean is a Cooper brand. I know that many folks have said good things about the Coopers. The Dean tires are really inexpensive. I was wondering if anyone is running Dean tires.

For what it is worth, I put a set of Cooper Cobra street tires on my 67 Mustang, they were supposedly guranteed for 40k. I probably put 15k on them before they needed replaced again. My experience with cooper ( on-road tires ) is that they wear out VERY fast.

If you want to get technical, Daimler is a German company. The Germans didn't want us involved in Iraq either.
