I think it is all luck of the draw. I had an Audi and it performed great. I currently have a VW that I replaced my Liberty for. The issues that the Liberty gave me with only 25k on the odometer were unacceptable. The Jeep was giving me a transmission issue that was covered under warranty. It took the dealership 2+ months to get the part and fix it under warranty. After getting it back within a week the EGR and Flow Control Valves failed and my CD changer got hosed. The dealership didn't want to do anything until after I complained to Chrysler. The truck was fixed and I sold within a week. Sir Sam I quote you "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. I do not care to repeat the experience", that is my same sentiment regarding Jeep. The funny part this was my first American car and after the experience possibly my last. I will never say never, but can definitely say not anytime in the foreseeable future if I can help it.

Actually VW/Audi was the one automotive bright spot in 2008  I've owned and put a ton of miles on many many VW's, mostly diesels and some with a quarter of a million miles on them  The only one that ever left me stranded, actually my wife :? was a 1973 aircooled bus that dropped a valve.

VW/Audi has started a campain to recapture 18% of the US market. Even in the current market they plan on eventually selling the same amount of cars as they did here in their hayday years in the 70's. They know it will take commitment and take years to accomplish. They just broke ground on a plant in Tennesse in November. AND for the biggie, ready for this sam? is to make sure they have good trained technitions. No car is any better then the servicing dealer. I had a intermittent problem with my brand new just left the dealership CRD (air in the fuelhead) and all I ever get is a "Can not duplicate  I had a intermittent problem with my last jetta not restarting (just like sam discribed) and while waiting for my ride home I watched him for an hour till the problem showed up. It was the load reduction relay  100,000 miles later it's still running perfectly. It's had a total of ONE (eat your heart out jeep) recall for a stop light switch and has never had a valve cover leak. But I'll be the first to admit some dealer's service departments need to find jobs they're more suited for and this is not only for VW:lol: I can't help to notice there's a certain jeep tech here who's attidude really could stand some improvement. I hope he does not show up where I bought mine :?

I wish my CRD preformed as well as my vw's did

The best cars are the ones that don't need to be taken to the dealer.

*Cough* *every Jeep I've ever owned*

I only go to dealers when they're under warranty. They scare me  I've had 3 XJ's and before long I'll be looking for a 2000 or 2001 preferably white, to replace my wife's beloved 93 Eurovan that has an I5 similiar to but not the same as what Audi used. You would be proud of how a very beat up 89 5 speed 2 door turned out. The first thing I had to tackle was "death wobble" caused by all four of the u joints on the front axel I thought I had a bad differential till I figured out how the vacuum disconnect worked  Many trips to local yards reminded me of my younger years
